The trailer for indie thriller Proxy explores the horrors of pregnancy

There are few things more terrifying than a pregnant woman being hurt. The French film INSIDE portrayed a pregnant woman being stalked by a killer and featured a horrific amateur C-section. It makes even the most tolerant viewer squeamish seeing such awful things done. That being said, most studio films shy away from displaying such acts on screen. That is where independent filmmakers come in.

The trailer for PROXY doesn't seem like it is going to be the same type of horror movie as INSIDE, but the footage doesn't seem to avoid showing the main character played by Alexia Rasmussen have her unborn child endure some intense and violent moments. What follows bears more in common with Lars Von Trier's recent films MELANCHOLIA and ANTICHRIST. The slow motion and the pace of the film definitely hint that the horror of this story is more of the psychological kind rather than the supernatural.

A young woman named Esther (Alexia Rasmussen) who, after being brutally attacked while pregnant, finds friendship and consolation in a support group. However, a chance encounter makes her realize that nothing in her life is as it appears.

I am going ahead and predicting from that synopsis alone that what she realizes is the guy she falls for is either the attacker she faced or her traumatized mind thinks that he is. Chaos ensues.

It is always interesting to see these under the radar films get big notice and hopefully this one lives up to the intriguing trailer. PROXY will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival running from September 5-15th.

Extra Tidbit: YOU'RE NEXT star Joe Swanberg appears in PROXY!

Alright, I'm interested

I liked Inside a lot even with it's brilliantly graphic ending which may have made me squirm more than I care to admit.

I have to say that's a damn god trailer, simple, effective, slightly chilling to the nerves, it's giving off a vibe that it's main character is off her head and I like that, should make for an interesting watch. I'm in.

Fantastic Trailer

I like the mis-direction in making you think the main character is narrating. Didn't give away a lot, gave off an effective tone....well-done.

Superbly atmospheric teaser.

Do I need glasses or can you see the actors wearing underwear in the doggystyle scene?
