The trailer for Jason Statham's Parker with Michael Chiklis and Jennifer Lopez is surprisingly cool

Oct. 3, 2012by:

Something very strange happened while watching the trailer for director Taylor Hackford's PARKER; I suddenly had the desire to see a Jason Statham movie in the theater. Sounds crazy, right? To be fair, Statham is great to watch, but it's a rarity anymore that I'd rush out to see him on the big screen. However, with PARKER, you have a bang-up cast and a well-versed director spearheading the project, which is based on the Parker series of novels by Donald E. Westlake.

Take a look:

The character of Parker has been adapted in numerous forms on the big screen already with Lee Marvin's POINT BLANK and Mel Gibson's PAYBACK (both based on the novel The Hunter), each of which changed the name of Parker to something else. PARKER is based on Westlake's novel Flashfire, but is keeping the original name. Overall, I'm impressed. It's got a lot of the usual Statham action goodies, but with the source material and stellar cast, I think this has the potential to give Statham a theatrical hit.

Here's the synopsis:

Parker (Jason Statham) is a professional thief who lives by a personal code of ethics: Don't steal from people who can't afford it and don't hurt people who don't deserve it. But on his latest heist, his crew double crosses him, steals his stash, and leaves him for dead. Determined to make sure they regret it, Parker tracks them to PalmBeach, playground of the rich and famous, where the crew is planning their biggest heist ever. Donning the disguise of a rich Texan, Parker takes on an unlikely partner, Leslie (Jennifer Lopez), a savvy insider, who's short on cash, but big on looks, smarts and ambition. Together, they devise a plan to hijack the score, take everyone down and get away clean.

PARKER hits theaters on January 25, 2013.

Unless you count his spirited role as "Airport Man" in Collateral, I've never seen any Jason Statham movie in theaters.

Not bad

He does what hes good at. i want to see him do a role where he doesn't have his awesome accent and is something way different like a murder like matthew fox is in that movie.

Not Parker

I love Statham, but I was not happy when he was cast as Parker. Statham plays Statham and nothing more. That's okay, it's what love him for. Still, I was hoping for the best. This trailer bares no resemblance to the character of Parker as seen in the 20+ novels Richard Stark (Donald Westlake) wrote. It looks like generic Statham. It looks like Safe and The Mechanic Part 2. I like those movies, but that's just not the Parker film i wanted. Parker should be more like Statham's The Bank Job or

For my Parker fix, I'll stick to Mel Gibson and Lee Marvin's portrayals of the character in PAYBACK and POINT BLANK. As for this, I'll forget it's based on a beloved character and enjoy it for the fun Statham romp that it looks to be.

It is great to see Chiklis too. Vic Mackey forever!

Having Michael Chiklis and Wendell Pierce in this does help things.

If I can't count Expendables, the original, then probably The Bank Job.

As usual Jason Statham doesn't disappoint, nice! Also its good to see Jennifer acting again or maybe its been a while since I saw her in anything.

Extratidbit: The first Expendables movie if that one doesn't count then transporter 3.

He SHOULD be more selective with his roles.

Nevertheless, I love me some Statham. Movie looks good, Lopez is perhaps the only pop star/actress who doesn't scare me away from seeing any movie she's in

It seems from this and The Expendables 2 that Statham likes disguising himself as men of the cloth.

I'm not familiar with the novels and it seems like Statham is playing himself again, but it does look like a fun ride, and Taylor Hackford is a dependable veteran director.

Worship before The Stath

I am a huge fan of The Staths work, trouble is the local cinema down here don't show all his films, so I am hoping that this makes it down here as it looks really cool. Aside from Expendables , last Stath film I saw at the cinema was Killer Elite, best film has to be Crank.

Crank

Which I kind of loved, but now kind of hate. Also, I was impressed with Safe, though expectations were low.

Why the hate?

I thought it looked genuinely cool, like an Elmore Leonard adaptation (Lopez added to that, reminding me of that classic Out of Sight). Im in

I'm not going to be able to help comparing Statham to Gibson the whole time. Payback is one of my favorite movies.

To whose who read the books: Does the "Parker"-character gets shot in every book or novel? Because it seems to happen to him in every movie: Point Blank, Payback and now in this.
