The movie trilogy is an odd thing. So many are near and dear to our hearts, and we get movie boners at the mere mention of THE GODFATHER trilogy or the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy--keep in mind I'm only scratching the surface. The odd part is, that rarely, if at all, do the sequels measure up to the first film in the trilogy. There have been so many stinkers to conclude a trilogy, it pains me to even begin going through the rolodex (damn you Wachowski Bros.) And yet, eventhough the painful memories outnumber the pleasant ones, I'm still a sucker for the trilogy. So is a fellow by the name of Danmeth, who has compiled "The Trilogy Meter"; a simple and accurate barometer of trilogies and their comparative success from film to film. Check it out below and let the debate begin!

If you count LotR's three-way tie into the 'second', because of its anomalous status, then you actually end up with a majority. Which seems to indicate that we as the movie-going public have an unwarranted bias against sequels.

-Jurassic Park 3 should be non-existent.
-Spiderman 2 should be lower than the first. But they all sucked anyway.
-LOTR are definitely way overrated.
-Die Harder is way too high. Vengeance is better.
-Blade 1 is better than blade 2.
-POTA 3 is better than 2.

how can you have JP1 rated so low? i know JP3 wasnt the greatest, but JP2 was pretty good.
TLOTR2 to me was the best of the 3 movies. they were all great though.
Jaws 3 above 2, come on. neither where very good, but 3 was a disaster.
Diehard 4 is a close second to the first one, but that ruins the whole trilogy thing which means it shouldnt even be on the list. along with Indiana Jones,

and to Movie Man2: I want to analyze your statement - Godfather 3 is "one of the most under appreciated movies in the trilogy." Zuh? how many others (parts 1 or 2) are under appreciated? Neither as far as I know. but i'm just breaking balls. as for your Bourne question, it should rank high, considering it's an awesome trilogy. certainly one of the best this decade.

And this is actually reminding me of where George Lucas' true strength lies. He was great at making trilogies that didn't fizzle out in the end and insult their predecessors (this of course is referring to the actual three-movie system, if you wanna bring in prequels, count them as a separate trilogy and the claim holds true).

The definition of a movie trilogy has to be clarified...a trilogy is one story (e.g. lotr, star wars) told in three parts
that being said any of these with more than 3 movies are dead after 3 it becomes a series only star wars escapes this fateas its two different stoies connected by only one character(mostly)so indy, star trek, superman, x-men, jaws, die hard, planet of the apes, rocky, terminator, rambo, batman,and alien are void and spiderman and lotr will join them unless spidey 4 and the hobbit aren't made
