The uncensored Girl With the Dragon Tattoo poster is here

Jun. 8, 2011by:

Back in February, we ran a story headlined "David Fincher wants Rooney Mara naked on the Dragon Tattoo poster." It was an excerpt from an interview with Fincher ostensibly promoting THE SOCIAL NETWORK for Best Picture. But Fincher was deep in DRAGON TATTOO at the time and the reporter caught a glimpse of what Fincher had in mind for the poster. As the story goes, "It's black and white and beautiful, but there's no way in hell any studio will ever let Fincher use it, as he knows. Because Mara is naked from the waist up."

Four months later, here we are and somehow the tenacious director has actually convinced Sony Pictures to release a poster featuring its star naked from the waist up. How this gets past the MPAA is beyond me but whatever the case, the uncensored (and obviously NSFW) version of the poster (no "The Film Is Not Yet Rated" bar or release date covering anything up) is now online and you can check it out by clicking below...

This movie is shaping up to be epic. I love this poster. Hopefully this gets made available to purchase.

I think this is done very nicely, and is consonant with the characters of the books. Well done. I'm counting the days until this flick!

Well, I guess that's just older than I expected. Apparently his character hits the Swedish tanning beds a lot, based on the lines and wrinkles.

I am excited for this film, it's just that I wish this was a poster for the new James Bond film.

Don't like it

I know I'm supposed to be going, "WOO TITTIES!" but this poster feels totally wrong. Lisbeth is (a) naked and (b) in a submissive posture, wrapped in Blomkvist's protective arm, which is totally against what the book is about. Lisbeth is this tough, self-reliant character - okay, seriously messed up but still - who can easily take care of herself. Hell, at one point, she saves his life! I hope the film has a better clue than this poster.

You guys seriously don't see that he's holding her like a weapon? He has nothing in his other hand and the look in his face is of fear while her look is icy cold. Lisbeth is ready to strike. And if I'm thinking too deeply there is also the fact that Blomkvist is the first man Lisbeth ever trusted and somewhat loved and is the only person who can hold her like that. At this point in the trilogy I think it makes sense.

Except David Fincher was actually involved in the creation of this poster, as reported in a previous article on this very website: [link] It even mentions that Fincher was primarily responsible for the concept of the poster, which contradicts your statement, smooveluv.

I hear what you're saying - but i think they are just trying to build buzz and edginess at this point. The director rarely has much to do with pre-release promotional materials.

Saved to iphoto and added to the "slideshow". I love this poster and both trailers but as someone who read the book and saw the Swedish film I feel like the marketing of this movie is a bit off. This isn't "the feel bad movie of christmas" and neither Blomkvist or Lisbeth are "evil" people.
