The vampire neighbor in the Fright Night remake is Colin Farrell, of all people

05.10.2010

He's been keeping a relatively low profile for a while, but Colin Farrell is back with a thirst for blood.

Our favorite Irish wildman will star in the revamp (ahem) of the memorable 80s flick FRIGHT NIGHT. The update, as with the original, involves a young man who is justifiably convinced his new neighbor is a bloodsucker.

Anton Yelchin (STAR TREK) plays the jittery horror fanatic, while Farrell will slip on the fangs as the charismatic vampire next door (a role previously -- and perfectly -- played by Chris Sarandon). Toni Collette (THE SIXTH SENSE) is also appearing as Yelchin's mom (although it would've been kinda cool if she took over the washed-up horror host originally played by Roddy McDowall).

The Dreamworks movie comes from director Craig Gillespie (LARS AND THE REAL GIRL) and writer Marti Noxon, who cut her teeth as a creative regular on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel".

Deadline also says that Farrell will co-star with Paul Rudd in the self-explanatory comedy HORRIBLE BOSSES.

Quite interested...

For a remake, this ain't sporting a bad cast so far. It's obvious that nobody will top Chris Sarandon. But for a remake, Farrell's certainly not a bad choice. I think he'll be able to pull off the mysterious/seductive aspect of Jerry.
Personally I'm pulling for Anna Kendrick to be Amy.
I wonder if there's any truth to that rumor from a few months ago that the main character would turn to Chris Sarandon himself for help.

I love Colin Farrell, but while I am convinced he can do almost anything, Chris Sarandon brought a certain something to the role of Jerry Dandridge I don't know if you can replicate, which made him charming, sexy, and scary even when he wasn't wearing makeup.

But then again, I'm not worried if Farrell can be charming, sexy, and scary, I know he can, but I just remember being surprised how commanding Sarandon was, especially when for much of the movie he was the lone bad guy.

Well...

Farrell is good as choice as any, but personally, Julian McMahon would have perhaps been more of a no-brainer: he has the looks, charm and inherent sexiness.

Still, this is still an interesting development.

About the only Horror re-make I'm looking forward to.

Colin Farell pretty much adds to that.

And for some reason my main line of thinking is, if it's good....then it'll be good and everyone'll be on form.

However if it's bad...then Farell will at least provide some sort of cheeseball entertainment value.

So pluses all around

When I first read the headline, I laughed because I thought it read Colin Firth. But after correcting myself and reading, I thought Colin Firth could actually pull this off much better than Farrell. Ah well.

I had cared less about this movie since they announced the remake. Now that they added Colin to the list of other well known actors, it has completely opened my mind.

Alright, he definitely fits the part. Still not saying the movie's a good idea, but he certainly does fit.

I gotta agree with Tagia, since the Charlie Bartlett was cast, I always felt Julian McMahon could play my favorite vampire of all time. I've just never liked any of Farrells work.

C'mon!!

What is Farrell's like-ability? I don't get it. He hasn't done ONE thing that was admirable or even worth watching. Fright Night is a classic and now he's taking on one of the most iconic vampire roles of the 80's. Chris Sarandon played Jerry Dandridge flawlessly. He was sophisticated, suave and badass. Farrell is gonna play this role as a giant douche cuz that's what he is. (prediction: -25)

Have you seen "In Bruges"? He was fantastic in that, and it was one of the best films of '08.
I think Farrell's a surprising, but good, choice for the role. And I didn't know Toni Collette had been cast! That makes me even more excited!

I have nothing bad or good to say about this news. So far, Gillespie and Yelchin have gotten me pretty super excited about this. And now hearing Toni Collette is on board... pretty cool.

But I dunno. I literally do not know how I feel about this. I guess we'll just have to see some "in-character photos" to get a beter idea...

(what a terrible, non-sided strikeback...)

I'm mostly curious to see Anton Yelchin, I feel like we've already experienced Colin Farrel's shtick enough to know what to expect from him.

This is going to be so lame. Love Collette, Love Yelchin, but this movie is going to prove to be another quite awful remake. Farrell is a stale one note actor and this won't be good.

WTF?!!

No no no. I'm officially not interested in this anymore. He'll probably be all wearing his wool cap in the summer, and he'll have a shirt that says "phresh" and his jeans will be all ripped up. What a tool.
