The Wachowskis are returning to Netflix for a second season of Sense8

Despite being critically drubbed, the first television series from Lana and Andy Wachowski, Sense8, has been renewed for a second season on Netflix. The announcement came via the Netflix Twitter feed with an announcement from the cast. The news dropped on August 8th which also just so happens to be the birthdate of the eight connected characters on the show. Get it? August is the eighth month of the year? And they were born on the 8th? Get it? My brain hurts.

Here's the announcement video.

As much as I liked SPEED RACER, CLOUD ATLAS, and even JUPITER ASCENDING, I just could not get into Sense8. The series felt jumbled, disjointed, and poorly acted. Yes, I made my way through the entire first season and still felt as let down as I did by the first half. Sense8 represents the first failure by Netflix in regards to their original programming projects. This makes me wonder if they did not want to admit defeat after a string of buzzworthy hits or if the viewership numbers really lived up to their expectations.

It is unknown in what capacity the Wachowskis will return for the second season. The siblings co-wrote all twelve of the first season episodes with J. Michael Straczynski. They directed seven of the first season episodes with CLOUD ATLAS co-director Tom Tykwer, Dan Glass, and V FOR VENDETTA helmer James McTeigue directing the other five. If that will hold true for the next run of episodes remains to be seen. If anything, they need to get another writer involved to help punch up these stories a bit.

There is no premiere date for the second season, but expect Sense8 to return in 2016.

AWESOME

I have to say while it did start off a little slow I found myself really being hooked in by the end. I enjoyed it and can't wait for a second season. The show is not for everyone.

It is a great show and for from a flop. You do have to watch closely or you will be lost. A lot of great reviews out there as well.

I like what I have seen so far. After Cloud Atlas and Sense8, it seems they find a lot of material for plot lines and short stories. They are always doing something to push, MovieManiac, I definitely agree. However, the episodes are so long! I am going to watch the episodes in halves for now on.

Couldn't disagree more Alex though I can see how it could be divisive. For me it was some of the bravest television I've ever seen. What else from the Wachowskis? Sure they don't always pull it off but they are consistently pushing themselves to come up with something inventive. I love them for that. For me this series is everything that's great about them. 'Critically drubbed' is a bit of an overstatement though. 69 percent on RT is hardly a disaster. And with the Wachowskis I can often

And with the Wachowskis I can often take a review with a pinch of salt because they are boundary pushers in my view. New is not always invited with open arms. I fully expect this series to develop a strong cult following and Netflix may be savvy enough to see it.

YES!

I thought the show was intriguing, thought provoking, and visual feast.
An excellent series. Very much looking forward to season 2.

I may be in the minority, but I absolutely loved it. Best thing the brothers did since the original Matrix. I'm pretty picky about my Netflix series too. House of Cards started to feel a bit stale though I still adore F.U. Daredevil was an unexpected surprise but I whipped through Sense8 in a couple days. I enjoyed the concept, though could do without the constant multi-sexual tone that tended to be thrown in our face. I look forward to seeing where they can take this...
