Sonequa Martin-Green Star Trek: Discovery The Walking Dead

Over the past several weeks there have been several casting announcements for CBS' upcoming Star Trek: Discovery, but nothing about which actresses would be leading the series. The role was apparently a tough one to fill but now Entertainment Weekly has reported that The Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green will be the new face of the latest Star Trek series.

Unfortunately, nothing new has been revealed about Martin-Green's character beyond what we already know, that she will be a “lieutenant commander with caveats" and a "sensitive hero." I haven't seen much of Sonequa Martin-Green beyond her Walking Dead role, but I'm excited to see what she can bring to Discovery once free of blood and guts. For those of you wondering if this means that her Walking Dead character won't make it to the end of the season, EW states that she will "continue to serve as a series regular" on The Walking Dead. I suppose we'll find out if that's true soon enough. CBS has yet to comment on the casting, but once they do, we'll likely get a few more details about her character.

Sonequa Martin-Green will be joining the already cast Michelle Yeoh (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON) as Starfleet Captain Georgio of the Starship Shenzhou, Doug Jones (HELLBOY) as Lt. Saru, a Starfleet Science Officer and the member of a new alien species, Anthony Rapp (RENT) as Lt. Stamens, a "astromycologist" and "fungus expert", Chris Obi (Roots, American Gods) as T'Kuvma, a Klingon Leader who is seeking to unite the Klingon houses, Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful, Black Mirror) as Kol, a Klingon Commanding Officer as well as T'Kuvma's protégé and newcomer Mary Chieffo as L'Rell, a Battle Deck Commander of a Klingon vessel. Star Trek: Discovery will premiere on CBS All Access in May 2017.
