Director James Mangold's THE WOLVERINE has seen its fair share of delays up to this point, but with its August production start date inching ever closer, we're now finally starting to get some important bits of casting filled. According to Coming Soon, Hiroyuki Sanada ("Lost", THE LAST SAMURAI) has been cast as 'Shingen'; Hal Yamanouchi (THE LIFE AQUATIC, PUSH) as 'Yashida'; and newcomers Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima will star as 'Mariko' and 'Yukio', respectively. Meanwhile, Variety has announced that actor Will Yun Lee (TOTAL RECALL, ELEKTRA) has been cast as the film's main villain, 'Kenuichio Harada' a.k.a. the 'Silver Samurai'. While these are obviously not big names here in America, it's nice to see them being authentic with their casting. A good sign.

As we've already known for awhile, the film - from writer Christopher McQuarrie (JACK REACHER, THE USUAL SUSPECTS) - is inspired by the popular comic book storyline by Chris Claremont & Frank Miller that follows Wolverine through his adventures in Japan. How close director James Mangold will stick to the original story, though, remains to be seen.

THE WOLVERINE is scheduled for release July 26, 2013.

If only Marvel didn’t have the problems they did in the 90’s – they’d never have had to sell off so many movie rights. I love the comic book mentality they’ve applied to their movies – just imagine how X-men and Spider-man could have fitted in to the world they’ve created. That said I always thought that X-men should have been in their own world as I could never understand why humans had a problem with mutants but not other superheroes…who also gained powers from mutations. Anyone ever see

Anyone ever see the Spider-Man animated cross over with the X-men back in the 90’s? There was a scene where two snipers were targeting The Beast who was just at that moment meeting up with Spider-Man – one sniper says to the other, I didn’t know Spider-Man was a mutant. I was like…WTF – he crawls up walls – do you think he’s normal??? Hey, I was a nit picking teenager back then!

I'm glad that this looks to have a solid, predominantly Asian supporting cast. I think that beyond martial arts actors, Asian stars have yet to truly break through in Hollywood. And this is actually being filmed in Japan, and deals with the storyline of Wolverine's time there which is very important to the character. All signs point to this being a good Wolverine film.

I WANT TO SEE A GOOD WOLVERINE MOVIE !!!

The question is...
Will it be a prequel to X-MEN, or will the story take place AFTER X-MEN 3 (Since the scene with Mariko's picture was cut from X-MEN 1's final cut) ?
Will it be in the X-MEN movies Universe or the X-MEN FIRST CLASS movie Universe (YES, I consider X-M:FC a reboot!) ?
Many things could be great, but SO MANY things could go wrong, FOX being... Well FOX !
