The Wolverine gets official release date for next summer

02.07.2012

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE may have been a disappointment to fans, but it made a ton of money despite the film being bootlegged a month before release. Despite some production delays 20th Century Fox seems to have gotten things all set for the sequel, which now has an official release date of July 26th, 2013.

James Mangold (WALK THE LINE, COP LAND, IDENTITY) will direct since Darren Aronofsky dropped off last year. The main villain this time will be the Silver Samurai, as the film sees Logan starting a relationship with a Japanese woman who's engaged to another man.

Mangold has said before how he's seeking to make this a more personal film, perhaps even more of a mystery than a straight-up action film, although there will certainly be plenty of that. He's gotta get those claws out against the samurai at some point, obviously.

The release date will put THE WOLVERINE against the light competition of that DIRTY DANCING remake and Walt Disney's PHINEAS AND FERB film.

So wow, a ton of comic book movies on the way next year too. Besides THE WOLVERINE we're going to see MAN OF STEEL, IRON MAN 3 and THOR 2. What do you think- do you want to see more of Logan's adventures?

Yep excited...

Happy this is happening, the 1st Wolverine was meh (although it has grown on me a little since) but the Japan story was the flick i always wanted to see plus Mangold is very good at drama and action. i would be worried about FOX but it seems they went out of their way last year to deliver some worthy tentpole flicks this, fingers crossed they do the same for this one.

Ummm....

Last I checked, next summer would be considered a few months away from now. Check your calendar Alex Riviello. I understand your approach, but choice of words should be considered.

Can we reboot this with Russell Crowe already?!!?? I've had it up to my ears with Hugh Jackman. Wolverine is supposed to be a leatherfaced mountain monster, not a runway model. FUCK!!!

Could have been worst: If not for the shooting delay on Mission Impossible 2, it would have been Dougray Scott!

Meh, too long of a wait

If my username doesn't say it all I don't know what does. However, I too wish D.A. would have stayed on, but I think Mangold is a solid replacement and dig where they are going with the story, but the last couple films (Jackman aside of course) made me one of the many who still have a sour taste and still hope for an all out bloody, F'bombin' standalone. But after seeing his cameo last year, I'd rather maybe he stayed that route with all these other Marvel movies in that light until it's time

But for some reason they finally pull it off with this next one...consider me patiently happy. Hell of a ramble, I know, but jeez next freakin' July?! I sure hope the Mayans are wrong...dead wrong, bub!

As commented below, I too would liek for an R rated Wolverine. It doesn't have to be overly gory and drop the F-bomb every 15 seconds, but I would like for Wolverine to get 2-3 bloody kills in and realistically say the F-word a dozen or so times in a 90 minute period.

Optimistic and Skeptical

I'm optimistic because I like most of the director's work. I'm skeptical because the last one sucked so much and it seems like Jackman just does things for money.

Still gutted that Aronofsky left the production, it always felt like it was too good to be true but it still hit me hard. We've been robbed of something truly special, I just don't think Mangold will even come close to what would've been. I will need to hear and see more before I get excited about this again.

I, as most, would have been far more stoked if Aranofsky was filming this. That said, I'll probably always watch Jackman playing Wolverine. The third X-men film and the first Wolverine movie were largely terrible, but Jackman was still good in them . His cameo in First Class was not only cool, but funny as all hell.

I'd be more pump if they stamp the R rating on this one.

Lets be real, they'll never do that, the luckiest we'll get is maybe an unrated blu-ray. Btw if u havent checked it out i recommend the video based on the first movie, its the same plot with Jackman playing the character but it feature ultra gorey action!
