The Zombieland sequel will be a TV show

Oct. 18, 2011by: Paul Tassi

We may never see ZOMBIELAND 2 in theaters, due to scheduling constraints and higher actor salary demands, but the concept is going to live on in another format.

Fox is developing a half hour comedy show based on ZOMBIELAND, which, fun fact, was actually supposed to be a TV show when it was first concieved, according to the writers.

"We always thought [it should be a TV series]. If you watch the movie with that in mind, you will see some remnants of the television show. We have the ‘Zombie Kill of the Week,’ which was always intended to happen every week. The movie ends on a cliffhanger; it doesn’t have a real resolution."

But now thanks to the sky high ratings of the premiere of The Walking Dead season two, zombies now apparently equal cash, and that’s enough to get Fox to move on the concept.

Would this actually be on Fox, or a sister network like FX? I would imagine due to the massive amounts of violence, it would have to be the latter, because otherwise I’m not sure how you sell gore-free zombie show to viewers.

Extra Tidbit: Do you think Fox could pull something like off?

If they can get Woody Harrelson at least, then I'll be down for this.

If it was done right and put on FX I'd watch it.

Well it's a bummer we may never see a sequel, but a tv show if it's done right would be cool! They have to incorporate some more celebs in it too!

Sounds more appropriate for F/X then Fox, they can show more gore & curse.

I was really hoping to see a sequel in theaters, but I guess I'll take what I can get. I just hope ABC doesn't get it, they'll just cancel it before the pilot even airs.

What do you think, Zombie kill of the week?

I would like FX to get this. Or Showitme.

AH FUCK THAT NOISE...

Fox. Seriously. Can't somebody else like AMC or HBO pick it up as a hour show that would be a lot better.

sigh...

Everything sounded good (I could enjoy another zombie serie.. why no?) but then it all fell apart the moment I read FOX. Either is crap and they keep it running forever or is amazing and they cancel it after 10 episodes...

While I would've loved a sequel, a TV series would work. It would be like a light hearted version of Walking Dead. I wonder who they'll cast if they do move forward with this?

The Movie was meant to be a TV show

I remember reading an interview from the writers and they said that it was originally conceived as a TV show and thew movie is made up of the first three episodes so the fact that its moving back to the small screen (they already had written the whole first season) is a no brainer, im all for it. Only bummer is that they mostly wont get the original cast, one of the reasons the movie was so good but we'll see.

I say just let it be. I understand the desire for a sequel, but Harrelson has made it unequivocally clear he has no interest and Jesse Eisenberg is getting too costly and FORGET Emma Stone. Girl is A-list now. But don't do a t.v. show...don't sully its good name.

Couldn't get the rights to Shaun of the Dead or something? Don't know about you guys, but I'm really against the emasculation of zombies with all these quirky little romcoms that use the undead as merely a set dressing. Vampires and werewolves have already been ruined beyond repair. Lets try to keep some things sacred kids.

Please be on FX, please be on FX, please be on FX! While it sucks it won't get a sequel, and considering it was meant to be a TV show (everyone survived the movie), this could be good....

Death Valley the current MTV series is on episode 7 already, and has a very Zombieland feel to it. Not sure if another similar series is required, but hey.
