"There will be infinity nothing" in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is going to be a Guardians of the Galaxy movie... No more, no less. Expecting anything different is simply setting yourself up for disappointment.

Allow me to explain... There are a number of fans who think GOTG2 is going to serve some greater purpose in the overall layout of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the latest phase builds towards the Avengers' showdown with Thanos in INFINITY WAR, but, according to James Gunn, those are foolish thoughts. GOTG2 isn't going to be that kind of movie.

“There will be no Infinity Stones in Vol. 2," said Gunn on his Facebook page, and that should have been good enough. But, of course, people never trust the language chosen and have to argue semantics. So when it was then offered up that maybe an Infinity Gauntlet could appear in the film instead, Gunn once again emphatically squashed the speculation. “There will be infinity nothing. It’s a story about the Guardians, and isn’t meant to lead to anything else.”

That means no Infinity Stones, no Infinity Gems, no Infinity Gauntlets, no Infinity pools, no Infinity symbols, no Infiniti cars, no Infinit anything. Put that in the bank. Gunn couldn't be any clearer... times infinity.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 opens on May 5, 2017.

we're still gonna get a post-credit scene that will tie into the larger universe somehow. Marvel will force him to include something.

What I want to see in this movie is a scene where Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone get together and start having an argument. Then Star-Lord steps in and says, "Guys, GUYS!! Stop your bickering, where I came from there is a little movie called Tango and Cash, you guys sound just like them."

That's fine with me. One of the best reasons why the first one was so great and stood out because it didn't shoehorn and/or rely on too many Easter eggs from the previous films. It was able to tell its own story without feeling overstuffed.

That said, it did have quite a few. It had an appearance from The Other (the alien Loki met with in The Avengers), the first speaking scenes with Thanos, and, most notably, the plot revolved around an infinity stone. That's some major connections to the Marvel Universe.

True. But it was done so in a very much subtle manner.

I'm glad this movie won't be wasted setting up future films the whole time. At the same time there's no way there's no crossover with any of the other films in the MCU. I hope we get more Thanos too.

Makes Sense

My guess is that we'll get one in Doctor Strange and then one in Thor: Ragnarok, or else Black Panther will replace one of those two as it leads into Infinity Wars.
