These toy commercials have some potential spoilers for Man of Steel

Oct. 16, 2012by: Alex Maidy

We still haven't seen any clear video of Zack Snyder's Superman in action aside from those old publicity shots and set photos. It will still be a little while before we see the full trailer of what MAN OF STEEL has in store for us. But, to get ready, toy manufacturers are already prepping their commercials in anticipation of one of the biggest movies of next year.

These rough commercials made their way online courtesy of Bleeding Cool and present two new lines of toys for the movie. One, called Superman Flight Speeders looks like another cheap line that creates multiple different variations of costumes just to sell kids more toys. Not much exciting there. But, the other line, Superman Exploders, features a look at a cartoon version of General Zod as well as another villain.

Warning: Do not watch these if you wish to remain spoiler free for MAN OF STEEL.

Part of me thought these were fake commercials or spoofs of early 90s toys, but they look like they may be the real deal. If so, these are cheap ass toys that I wouldn't buy for my kids. But, that Exploders commercial does give an interesting, inhuman looking General Zod. Granted, the toys look like they are deformed takes on the characters, but I don't know why they would alter skin tone and overall character design just for the toy. Plus, the inclusion of Black Zero does keep in line with the Lego toy descriptions from a few weeks ago.

These could be toys that have no direct correlation with MAN OF STEEL. If they do, what do you think?

MAN OF STEEL opens in theaters on June 14, 2013.

Meh

Anyone remember the Batman Returns toys from back in the day? I recall Robin being a figure in that run, and if you all remember, Robin was supposed to be in the movie but was written out of it just prior to it being made. Also, The Penguin figure was almost identical to the Burgess Merideth version from the 60's. I take any and all toy commercials regarding movies with very little thought. Someone mentioned something the Fortress of Solitude....well, again, not to bring up BR, but Bruce Wayne

I say we just hold out for the real deal and not worry about some stupid looking fucking toys. I miss the 80's/90's. :(

Brainiac hinted!

Zod's tools are obviously Brainiac assisted.

The hell...Mattel isn't even bothering anymore with their kid-aimed toys. Big toy companies need to understand that kids aren't idiots. I'm looking forward to hearing about their proper, six inch scaled movie masters line. Sorry, I went all whiny toy geek there for a moment.

Oh yeah, action figures should be made in proper 5 - 6 inch tall with details, unlike what Marvel now do with their 3.5 inch action figure. Speaking of which, I have yet to make the Bat Signal from The Dark Knight Rises' movie master toy line.

Netforce, that Bat-signal is something quite special...I'm missing the swivel bracket because I didn't want to shell out for Batman (who is basically the same figure from The Dark Knight). However, I think Hasbro's Marvel Universe figures are actually really good, because even though they're in the much smaller 3.75 inch scale, they still have decent articulation and sculpts, and have precedence in the form of GI JOE and Star Wars figures, which have gotten more and more detailed even though

It's stuff that gets flung into the air.

Yeah, that's true. For Marvel's 3.5 inch toys, I just want my money worth, that's all. They look good and the articulation is quite good like you pointed out. I just feel that buying the new Marvel Legend action figures would be worth the money. As for the Bat Signal, I still have yet to find Catwoman, Ras Al Ghul and Officer John Blake. They're very hard to find where I live.

Hmm, these toys aren't necessarily the movie spoiler. For example, when The Dark Knight Rises hit theatre, I bought a Batpod toy with quick change armor whereas you push the button and the rather minimalistic Batpod became an armored Batpod. It's not in the movie but the toy is wicked cool.

People aren't going to take this with a grain of salt, but they really should.
They're toys. My G.I.Joe toys are better than the movie, I doubt this will be the same.

There is nothing in these commericals to suggest its part of Man of Steel beside the 2013; thats pretty far fetched. BTW these toys look like shit.

There's one thing, the mention of Black Zero which is also mentioned in a LEGO set description a few months ago, a set due in 2013. Surely not a coincidence. And if that's what "Black Zero" is then they just revealed part of Zod's plan in the movie. I'd say that's a pretty big spoiler.

That and lack of red undies implies this the Man of Steel version.

I am going to guess this has little to nothing to do with the movie. They always do this kind of stuff . Spiderman always ends up with a motorcycle or car or something even though he never uses one. They are also using outdated Superman footage which means they were basing this on very rudimentary designs as opposed to the finished movie product. And most of all, this looks like industry behind the scenes stuff. Something thrown together to show the execs so they can pass or play.

I'm still hoping for the best with this movie but...

SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO DON'T WANT TO WATCH THE COMMERCIALS BUT ARE READING THESE COMMENTS FOR SOME REASON!!!!!!!!!

The Fortress of Solitude is now a spaceship? Really? Also Zod looks more like Lex Luthor in armor, at least in those cartoony toys anyways.

END SPOILERS!!!!

Hopefully the movie itself will look better than these commercials once a proper trailer comes around.

You'll shoot your eye out

So much worse than a toy gun. Those are toys designed to be fired directly at your friends. Genius move.
