This ain't Twilight! Check out a gore-riffic werewolf transformation from Eli Roth's Netflix series Hemlock Grove

03.30.2013

We've all seen quite a few werewolf transformations, some more tame (or lame) than others. The most recent to come to mind are the brutes from the UNDERWORLD films and the pet wolves from TWILIGHT, which focus heavily on the CGI, which hardly hold a torch to the epic transformation from AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, which is still an amazing sequence to this day. However, it looks like a new contender is stepping into the ring with Eli Roth's upcoming Netflix series, Hemlock Grove.

IGN has a awesomely savage and gory transformation that is one of the most fun werewolf transformations I've seen since John Landis scared the crap out of us in 1981. The scene features stars Bill Skarsgard and Lili Taylor watching as Landon Liboiron "sheds his skin" in a bizzare, wicked, and gory way. Make sure you watch til the very end for a special "treat."

Not exactly Teen Wolf:

Pretty badass, eh? I had already planned on checking out Hemlock Grove, but yeah, now I'm f*cking excited! If that scene is any indication, not to mention the mere screen presence of Famke Janssen, as well as dependable co-stars Dougray Scott and Lili Taylor, then this could be a welcome surprise and another win for Netflix (and, consquently, their viewers).

Hemlock Grove premieres its entire first season on Netflix streaming on April 19, 2013. Eli Roth's next feature, THE GREEN INFERNO, is slated for release later this year.

Extra Tidbit: Let's hear your favorite werewolf transformation!

No

Listen, I'm not saying this show is going to blow or anything quite that severe, but how in the fuck can you compare this to "An American Werewolf in London" in any capacity?
I guess it's a decent enough transformation...if you want 90% of it to consist of highly questionable CGI.

The transformation was great and gory but the monster looks just like a regular wolf? How dissapointing.

Definitely a cool transformation & looked about as realistic as can be. The eating of the skin was a nice goreriffic touch. Haters gonna hate anyway so whatever. I will be watching for sure & I like that Netlfix shows the whole series at once.

My favorite transformation scene will always be American Werelwolf in London but I have a soft spot for Teen Wolf as well. Underworld's wolves was quick & simple & well the twilight ones just suck.

was really excited

I was excited to see this videodue to the show having my interest. The transformation scene was pretty decent for a series, yet the simple wolfinstead of actual humaniod wolf was a let down. Here's hoping the story makes up for it.

What a let down

When are we going to get a 7ft tall musclebound bipedal humanoid killing machine?!!!!!
The best Werewolves I've ever seen (though kinda bad now - make up wise) were from an old TV series called funnily enough "Werewolf". Real wolf = Passe (and a kick to the nuts)

Is that the show where the guy had a pentagon carved in his hand? Anywhere to watch this show?

Yeah, right on that one. Loved the show, kind of "the incredible Hulk" with a werewolf.

Amen! Loved the werewolves on that show. Using a real wolf sucks.

Meh

The show may be good but how many times a show are they going to put us through a 3 minute transformation scene....boring! Plus yah the whole real wolf thing, that is trademarked by twilight now and will remain so for the next 10 years or so. I know they did it for budget reasons as for having a real wearwolf on a TV show would cost too much but lame.

I don´t think an actual werewolf suit got to be that expensive. Those oldschool horror movie from the 80´s never had a budget like it´s thrown on TV screens nowadays.

That was actually pretty cool. The last bit was intense and I kinda flinched a bit when it started eating its own flesh and dead skin. I doubt I'll like the series though. Once again the characters seem like they're full of themselves, like knowing it's "cool" to be a werewolf even though it's a "curse". That's why when it comes to horror The Walking Dead is the best thing on TV. The realism and bleakness and intense pain in that series is surreal.

Not exactly a werewolf really. ...That's just a regular fucking wolf. To top it off, the wolf is small. Liam Neeson was fighting bigger wolves than that in The Grey. As for the transformation, it was pretty damn good. I was excited and it had me hooked ..until the final product.

That looked dumb.

So, each time someone transforms into a werewolf in this show, they will leave a big pile of eyeballs, skin, teeeth, and a whole lot of blood splattered everywhere? That seems inconvenient. Imagine if they changed in their living room.

I read Hemlock Grove a few months ago expecting nothing more than another shitty, young adult, fantasy novel. I was pleasently surprised when it actually turned out to be a fun update of a lot of classic, gothic horror tales and monsters. I don't know how well most of it will translate to a tv show, but I'll give it a shot.

If it weren't for the obvious cgi in the transformation, that WOULD be a contender. But I do like that the end result is an actual wolf, instead of some hybrid.

I honestly laughed when they showed a little wolf at the end of that bloody transformation. I thought something really badass was about to happen, and then he turns into a puppy. What happened to werewolves being an actual monster?

That was amazing :) I've been stoked for this, for a while. Now I reallllllllllyyyyyy am :) what a bad ass transformation scene. Mine has to be Dog soliders, or the company of wolves.

That's Bill Skarsgård - son of Stellan Skarsgård (Avengers, Thor, Melancholia...) and brother with Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood, Melancholia...). Seen a couple of (swedish) movies with him and he's actually really good in them.

I too am no fan of "werewolves" who are just wolves. Always seemed like a cheap and lazy way out to me. As for the transformation, it seemed to be going for shock value alone. I have to wonder, if his human body is completely obliterated like that every time they turn, how does it come back? Does the wolf get mutilated when he changes back? When he does come back, it must be some kind of new body so is he bald and what happens to his facial hair? I'm clearly over thinking this; have to stop

well to be honest he didnt really have any facial hair but... they did the same thing with the Werewolves in Van Helsing (had the skin rip apart) and never explained the transforming back into human...
in fact the transforming back into human is rarely shown in Werewolf movies....

Who paid you, Paul Shirey?

Seriously? THAT was a contender with American Werewolf in London? You knock Underworld and Twilight for their CGI heavy transformations (at least the CGI in those was GOOD), but then praise this CGI crap fest that would look outdated in Playstation 1 cut scene? I've seen youtube videos from users who were just learning to use After Effects with better animation. How much money did you get for this puff piece?

wow hate much

What is wrong with you people you critisize the cgi but i bet you can`t do better i`m sure you`ve seen better but can you personally do better ? I doubt it this was def a much more interesting transformation than the ones in true blood and twilight so i give it credit there but until i actually see the first ep i`m gonna remain neutral maybe you should all take a page from my book and reserve judgement though i can sympathize that was a lot of work for a plain old wolf to be the end result

did that thing just...

EAT his own skin off the ground? GHEEESH....
all things considered, you're cool if you:
1. like the transformation in The Howling better than this
2. like the transformation in American Werewolf in London better than this...
Werewolves are DEMONS.... not regular wolves.... I wont embrace Twi-hards because that sucks... and this... this starts to rip off Being Human and then the wolf is very anti-climactic ..... bones are breaking... well the sound of bones breaking but not much

(what?) which are replaced with new eyes... (uhh, ok) then after some (whether its shitty CGI or not is irrelevant, ) CGI skin breaking he hits the ground hard with a punch just like SUPERMAN... (uhh. right) and then... he turns into a regular wolf and eats his own skin.
I got pretty lambasted when I attempted my own werewolf transformation on YouTube in 2007 so I'll admit it's really not for Amateurs ... but I can still have an opinion and this doesn't look good.

i'm sorry but I can't take a werewolf that looks like a dog seriously. I want bi-pedal menacing fucking werewolves. remember the show werewolf on tv in the 90's? that's what I want my werewolf to look like.
