This Man of Steel Comic Con poster will make your weekend fly

Jul. 14, 2012by: Alex Maidy

With Comic Con winding down this weekend, the new posters and movie news is just ramping up. In an anticipated but still awesome revelation, the new poster for MAN OF STEEL was revealed today.

Zack Snyder's Superman film has a lot riding on it but everything that has been released so far speaks nothing but positive. This new poster is fantastic as well. The silhouette exudes the perfect mixture of strength and humanity while still feeling powerful and somewhat alien. The texture of the suit is a nice touch and the emblem on the chest harkens back to the classic Steve Reeves design.

All in all, I am very excited by this poster and think you fans will be as well. MAN OF STEEL looks like it will step right into that void of upper echelon superhero movies about to be left void by the closing of Christopher Nolan's Batman series.

Soak in the super goodness of the MAN OF STEEL poster.

And don't forget that the MAN OF STEEL teaser will be premiering this Friday in front of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. I cannot wait to see the first footage of Henry Cavill in action.

MAN OF STEEL flies into theaters June 14, 2013.

ok...

I have hope for Snyder, 4 of his 5 previous feature films were great even the stupid idea of birds using fire and forging weapons, and Sucker Punch was visually stunning. As long as that hack Singer has nothing to do with it I'm in.

The suit is the suit but it's the light in his eye that makes this poster. Very cool.

I really really really hope..

That they haven't done a Batman and sucked ALL of the fun out this movie.

I'm fine with conflict and emotion, but for crying out loud Superman is not dark and depressing and "gritty realism". Superman is The Avengers type of light-hearted family orientated optimism.

I for one really like the chainmail texture. I agree that it looks more alien like and also fiercer and cooler than a flat, untextured suit. Also, I'm really sure it won't be emphasised in the actual movie as much as it is in this poster. Compared to the concept sketches for Superman Lives, this suit is a masterpiece. And while we've all grown attached to the classic Christopher Reeve Superman suit, it is a really tough one to pull off. Zack Snyder actually screentested Henry Cavill in that

No matter how good it looked onscreen then, it probably will not hold up now. It was looking pretty silly by the Dean Cain years.

I never understand why people put so much emphasis on the texture. Who cares? It looks like the superman costume. It's blue, red and has the "S" logo.

Spaulding basketballs is putting out a movie?!?

Oh...sorry, with the texture design and the 'S' I got confused for a moment. Carry on.

I have to admit I'm not quite current with what's going on the comic world, but I seem to recall that Superman's costume was made from the blankets he was wrapped in during his journey from Krypton as a child. Is that still part of Superman's backstory? The only reason I ask is that while this looks very cool, (and I don't think it matters that much); it just doesn't seem like this material would be something you'd wrap a baby in.

The Cape was always the blanket and the suit was later "found" (based on new 52 storyline - DCs recent Reboot of their universe). I still don't see the Yellow/Gold needed behind the large S emblem on his chest though....

My first reaction on seeing this is that the only point of the poster is to show passing people the texture of the suit, and thereby communicate just how hard they're trying to make this different from past film versions of Superman. Not that the character couldn't do with a new on-screen version, but like I said, it just seems like they're trying extremely hard to make this into something that it doesn't necessarily need to be. Snyder has gone on and on about how he wants this Superman to be

Not that the character couldn't do with a new on-screen version, but like I said, it just seems like they're trying extremely hard to make this into something that it doesn't necessarily need to be. Snyder has gone on and on about how he wants this Superman to be darker and grittier, and some of the stuff I've heard out of Comic-Con was that the movie looked more or less exactly like it was trying to be SUPERMAN BEGINS, including similarities in imagery. Which I personally don't find particularly interesting. Though I may also be extremely biased towards not liking this project because I'm not a fan of Superman and SUCKER PUNCH fucked the respect Snyder built in me with DAWN OF THE DEAD. All he seems to care about anymore is things looking cool, which really won't help at the end of the day to make a Superman movie at all interesting. To borrow from another Comic-Con report I read recently, "If you took a drink every time Snyder said 'awesome,' you would have died of alcohol poisoning by the end of the panel." Which is how I feel when I imagine his director's commentary in my mind as I watch something like SUCKER PUNCH.

Maybe the promised pre-DARK KNIGHT RISES teaser will change my opinion. I'd like to think I'm open to the idea.

On a small side note, I'm not sure what it is that's so fascinating about Superman in shadow - SUPERMAN RETURNS did something similar with its first non-logo poster [link]

No more silkscreening please...

Cool poster, but enough with the textured suits.
