This proves Tom Cruise really hung off a plane for Mission: Impossible 5

07.13.2015

As each MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE film has one-upped the previous entry, Tom Cruise has remained consistently up for the challenge to perform whatever crazy stunts the production team cooks up for Ethan Hunt and his IMF team. While there is an underwater sequence in which Cruise had to hold his breath for several minutes, it is the trailer's airplane stunt that has had fans questioning the actor's sanity.

Modern movie magic has ways to use CGI to trick viewers into believing the impossible, but Tom Cruise actually did hang off the side of the airplane in this scene. Of course, there were safety measures in place, but the man actually did something that most actors would have scoffed at. Don't believe it? Check out the new featurette below which shows Cruise getting suited up and the raw footage of him attached to the place as it takes off with him along for the ride.

Whatever you think of Tom Cruise as a person, you have to admit his dedication to his work is admirable if not insane. The MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise has always excelled with the stuntwork and ROGUE NATION looks to be no exception. The footage of the plane scene in particular looks like edge of your seat work. Here's hoping the final product is just as impressive as these quick glimpses.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION hits theaters on July 31st.

The man is bat s**t crazy!

But, man, is he fun to watch. I caught Collateral on TV the other night, and for me, it's one of my favorites of his. He always gives 110% to his roles. The only thing I struggle to understand is how Cruise can do such an amazing job getting into his characters mindset. In real life, he always seems so fake. Like, he's doing his best impression of how he thinks a normal person would act... The man has never given a bad performance on screen, but has never given a convincing performance off.

That's just all kinds of awesome!

He really is a crazy son of bitch. I still think the mountain climbing scene was the most insane, but they've all been so out there it's hard to make a good argument for what is the most bag-shit crazy thing he's done for one of the films.

He's a very good actor too, so all the films have been more than just a couple of wild stunts done for publicity.

I did not need further proof about this...

I hope it's as good as Ghost Protocol... Rogue Nation is my most anticipated movie of this summer.

Well of course he really did it, why would we need proof? If it was any other actor, then I wouldn't believe it was really them or they were on green screen with CGI in post. No one puts his life on the line to entertain us like Tom Cruise & you have to respect him for it.

He isn't human you guys!

Of course he isn't afraid of falling, he's locked into the Scientology borg collective. If he falls they will just beam him up to planet Xenu or some such nonsense.
