Thor: Ragnarok will be a Thor/Bruce Banner "buddy picture" says Mark Ruffalo

10.28.2015

If you've been following the latest Marvel scoops, you're likely aware that JoBlo broke the news that Mark Ruffalo would be appearing in the upcoming THOR: RAGNAROK alongside Chris Hemsworth's Thor. We don't know all that much about the plot behind this latest THOR sequel, but Mark Ruffalo spoke with the New York Daily News and revealed that despite the likely apocalyptic tone that THOR: RAGNAROK will take, he views the film as a good ol' fashioned buddy picture:

I don't really know that much about it, but I think it's going to be a buddy picture with Thor and Bruce Banner.

While Thor and Bruce Banner may be playing buddy-buddy in the film, the same can't be said for Thor and the Hulk. Bruce Banner's giant green alter-ego hasn't always seen eye-to-eye with Thor in the MCU, and Mark Ruffalo believes that "they'll probably fight, there's no doubt, everyone wants us to fight at one point." I'd have to agree with you there Ruffalo, witnessing some Thor/Hulk fisticuffs in a cosmic setting is something which I'd very much like to see. The actor probably doesn't know a whole lot more than the rest of us, thanks to Marvel's notorious secrecy, but he added that he know's that "it's about (the Norse legends of) 'Ragnarok,' or the end times in the Marvel universe as it pertains to Thor — which seems to be quite the theme these days in movies."

THOR: RAGNAROK will hit theaters on November 3, 2017.

A Hulk vs. Thor throwdown, who would win?

These two characters, I feel, have had the worst solo films in this new MCU. Hopefully this will be a way to "fix" that.

I'd be down to see Hulk/Thor team up... against The Sentry!

A lot to improve upon after the Thor sequel. I feel they have something special up their sleeve as this may tease to a Hulk Planet down the road if Marvel so chooses to.

No reason to panic

When a statement starts with "I don't really know much about it", I feel it's a little early to worry. I agree that previous Thor movies were not great (too much humour, weak plot), so I've got my fingers crossed that they've learned from past mistakes, but I'm all for heroes appearing in other hero movies (its one of the unique things about the MCU until DC get going), so I'll give it green for Hulk Smash! Don't use him as a crutch though Marvel. Let's have a good script this time!

I guess it'll be cool to see them in a team up movie together but....I hope Hulk/Banner doesn't overshadow Thor. Despite being completely underutilized and his scenes being left on the cutting room floor, Chris Hemsworth's performance as Thor in AoU was his best performance as the Norse god, in my opinion. I know, a lot of his scenes didn't make sense, but it seemed like he finally nailed the character the same way Downey and Evans have for their respective heroes. Even though how he was used

Even though how he was used sucked, how Hemsworth played him was, weirdly, one of my favorite parts of the movie. Really want a chance for Hemsworth to show more of that, rather than have to compromise screentime.

"I think" does not translate to "will be", Kevin. Don't mislead your readers like that.

I saw this coming when The Hulk came out, and the characters kept saying that he is "God like" or has "power of a god". I am pretty excited for this...and now comes some down votes.

When it comes time to reboot Thor, I hope they do so as a stand-alone series. I feel something closer to Lord of the Rings would have been much cooler. I like the parts on Asgard, but the stuff on Earth seems awkward to me. He's given the least to do in both Avengers movies, so I doubt he's be missed in those films.

I don't mind this if the humor is kept to a minimum. The one aspect of the Thor films that I'm not really thrilled with (especially The Dark World) was the humor. I get that Thor was a fish out of the water (in some sense like Captain), but I thought they excessively used too much humor for a comic book hero that needs less of that and just more action overall.

After Civil War, this is probably the most vital Phase Three film. So I'm really hoping Marvel can deliver on this third entry since

especially considering that this is what they are saying is the "game changer" like Cap W:S Was.

I'm not big on the mcu but I just don't understand why they can't give Mark his own solo movie. I mean there's so much they can do in the new mcu for Hulk. I just don't get it. Thor gets 2 sequels before another solo Hulk outing? Smh.

It's a rights issue. Another studio (Universal, I think) retained the rights to make solo Hulk movies, so Marvel would have to make a deal with Universal for it to happen, most likely for a ton of money that Marvel doesn't want to spend.

Sounds dumb

Sounds like a bad idea to me. Wouldn't be surprised if Disney did this to lighten up what had been described as one of the darker Marvel movies.
