Thor to strut his stuff on Earth to the music of Foo Fighters

04.18.2011by:

It's been a while since we had a rockin superhero theme song. The last one I can remember off the top of my head is Nickleback's "Hero" from the original SPIDER-MAN (though I'm sure the commenters will remind me of something I missed). But THOR and Foo Fighters are looking to change all that.

Paramount, Marvel and Foo Fighters have collaborated on THOR and the upcoming Foo track, "Walk," will be featured in the film. In an early scene in the film, Thor, who's been stripped of his powers and sent to Earth by Odin, gets drunk at a roadhouse bar where the Foo track is playing. Later the song will play in full at the end of the film and over the credits.

Turns out Kenneth Branagh heard an early cut of the song and felt the lyrics, which allude to being "a million miles away" and learning to walk again, had a special meaning and fit the theme of the movie. I haven't heard the song nor seen the movie so I can't vouch for that, but I've embedded the song so let's take a listen.

Yeah sure, it's definitely a Foo Fighters song. And I guess it's also a song for the end credits of a movie. Lest you think that this is the last you'll hear of THOR and the Foos, producer Kevin Fiege says, "There's the possibility of some joint appearances between the band and some of the cast." A pregnant Natalie Portman singing "My Hero?" A drunk Anthony Hopkins singing "Everlong?" I'm down.

Wasn't too familiar with Foo Fighters before, but this song was great. Can definitely see it working well in Thor. Good call!

This is bad...

I'm starting to lose faith in this movie as it comes closer to release. I'm starting to see HEAVY advertising everywhere, which is a good sign that the studio is trying to upsell the product because it's not that good to begin with. Also, having any kind of pop music in movies is just a stupid move period. And to top it all off it's The fucking Poo Bighters! Good god (of Thunder), give me a Mjolnr so I can smash my brains in! (Also, claiming that Nickleback is 'rockin' is just a travesty

I don't know

I know Thor will be kick-ass, but I don't see him whoopin' ass to Foo Fighters. That just seems so out of place.

Smarmy and classic 'bad' Foo

Bad song. 'Iron Man' went for the jugular with its theme song, and in a way that didn't seem forced (avoiding the riff and playing Iommi's breakdown solo.)

Its THOR! How about God of Thunder by KISS! The kickass Paul Stanley version, not the boring Gene Simmons take.

Very good call. I personally felt that Ironman 2 should have used the song War Machine by KISS.

Wow, that's a horrible choice. If you're going to use a rock song for Thor, a norse god of thunder it needs to be hard rock, not Foo Fighters. This is a bad song, but it's probably fitting for what looks to be a bad movie. Honestly, they couldn't have paid for the rights to something along the lines of White Zombies More Human than Human?

Foo Fighters are good, but using this song for Thor is absolutely terrible. This sounds like it should be on Lifetime.

Foo Fighters are my favorite band so to have one the best songs from one of their best albums in this movie has me much more intrigued.

Ahhh I still wish we would've had the Lord of the Rings-esque Thor film, with original, epic scores . Maybe 5 years from now when they reboot?

Terrible idea

I hate when studios use rock/pop music in movies, it always dates them. 5 years from the Thor movie "theme song" will make that movie seem extra dated and cheesy... guaranteed.

Its only one scene, on earth, taking place in this time. The the rest of the soundtrack is most probably more orchestra, general and timeless.

I have no desire to see what this movie at all. I have the cd so I'll stick to listening to the Foo's in a medium I like. This album is so good that it worries me it could be their last. Also, if you haven't seen the Back and Forth documentary and its still playing, try to go see it. It was amazing.

Should've had Amon Amarth do the theme song! This one is ok though.

I am a big Foo Fighters fan. This makes this film even better.

Saw that Empire had a review up on Thor, they gave it 4/5.

Yeah Shoot to Thrill and War Machine from AC/DC. Shoot to Thrill however was pretty old from their Back in Black album. War Machine was pretty much the only "new" one as it was released in 09.

The new Foo Fighters album is absolutely amazing and this is the last song on the record. It actually rounds out the theme of the albums quite well, and hopefully it rounds out some of Thor's angst at losing his power!
