Strike Back below!
by: George Merchan Dec. 16, 2009

Industry trade mag The Hollywood Reporter, as part of their Awards Watch, have assembled the likes of Kathryn Bigelow (THE HURT LOCKER), James Cameron (AVATAR), Lee Daniels (PRECIOUS), Peter Jackson (THE LOVELY BONES), Jason Reitman (UP IN THE AIR), and Quentin Tarantino (INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS) for a roundtable interview discussing all things film! How cool is that? I mean, if not for the content then at least for the sheer novelty of seeing filmmakers like these riffing off one another. It's kinda juicy and fascinating stuff. I really, really hope THR releases the video interview in its entirety - awkward moments and all, please - because this kind of thing I could watch all day long.

The first video, "The Directors", is embedded below. Check out the remaining two RIGHT HERE.

Extra Tidbit: Got a kick out of Cameron and PJ getting on Quentin for his thoughts on digital projection.

Yes Kathryn Bigelow is a beautiful woman who's looks don't seem to come with an expiry date. And Jackson looks like a hobbit sitting next to Tarantino.

No offense to Lee Daniels but the "hardest scene you've ever filmed" answer he gave is exactly why he has no business sitting at that table. At all.

I could watch that for hours.. just replace Lee Daniels with Wes Anderson

With the exception of Lee Daniels, who has only directed two movies (including one shitty direct-to-video movie), this is awesome. I love seeing special effects wizards and action directors like Cameron, Jackson and Bigelow at the same table as indie-film gurus Tarantino and Reitman. I laughed when Tarantino took Jackson's water.

Yeah, there are a couple directors that shouldn't be in that roundtable {yet]. I would love to have seen a longer debate, with James Cameron, Quentin Tarantino, PJ, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorcese, Ridley Scott, Tim Burton and Michael Mann. OK, George Lucas could come as well.

It's cool seeing Bigelow and Cameron together here. With them being ex lovers and her copping his cast for Near Dark, and him helping her write Point Break.
