Three new clips from Sam Raimi's Oz The Great And Powerful show off wicked fireballs, travelling bubbles, and CGI characters

Feb. 18, 2013by: Paul Shirey

If you're not quite sold on OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL just yet, these three new clips may sway you in either direction.  Sam Raimi's journey back to the land of Oz definitely looks like a colorful, magical, CGI-infused journey, but the trailers haven't shown too much in terms of the tone.  These clips give a sense of the film, but I still think it's too early to call.  I'll always give Raimi the benefit of the doubt, as he's a reliable filmmaker, but I'm still on the fence with OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

The clips show off a few different aspects of the film; James Franco travelling in a bubble along with Michelle Williams' Glinda the Good Witch, Mila Kunis as Theodora and Rachel Weisz as Evanora having a "heated" discussion, and a look at Zach Braff's Finley the Monkey and Joey King's China Girl, the two CGI characters that accompany Franco throughout the film.

Take a look:

I'm slowly coming around and the prospects are looking good for me catching this in theaters, although a slew of bad reviews could change that.  Ultimately, "In Raimi I Trust" as he's rarely let me down.  What do you think?  Are you all in or ready to fold?

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL hits theaters and IMAX 3D on March 8, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: I'm really hoping this isn't something that turns into another trilogy...but, I suspect it's being set up for just that.

Wow those effects look bad. I know they are trying to be over the top but it should at least have some realism. When the actors jump out of the background because they can't blend in thats a problem for me. Even with todays CGI just because you an doesn't mean you should.

Nope

Sorry, I just can't get into the "prequel" of bastardizing another classic because "we have the technology" to do so. Also, Franco is very hit or miss with me and maybe I'm just in a bad mood today, but I tire of seeing the same old people work with the same old director because of past projects. Yeah, I know..."it's who you know"...Nolan does it too blah, blah, blah, but before I go on a useless rant...Oz just doesn't "do it" for me...
