Time Crime Cronenberg

Update: Sorry, folks, turns out this is just a rumor and in no way true. Vigalondo's people informed us that Vigalondo isn't even aware about any director being attached to the remake, much less that he said Cronenberg was interested in it. Again, apologies.

TIME CRIMES Director David Cronenberg has really been at the top of his game in the last few years and, according to what the good folks at "Twitch Film" have uncovered, that ain't stopping anytime soon now that he's looking to do a remake of the Spanish language time bender LOS CRONOCRMENES aka TIME CRIMES. The film's director Nacho Vigalondo apparently revealed that the cult auteur is currently in talks to tackle a remake, though nobody's signed anything quite just yet. In the film, a man travels an hour back in time and unravels a complex web of mystery that includes a naked girl in the middle of the forest and the right-pictued pink-bandaged psychopath. Sounds like Cronenberg could absolutely direct the shit ouf of this.

Cronenberg

Is one of the best directors alive. The only reason some of his earlier films like THE BROOD, RABID and SHIVERS aren't more respected are because of the passable to awful actors in them. But once VIDEODROME came about, he started hitting them out of the park. THE FLY is still and will probably forever be his best work, but I loved A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE whether it was true "indie Crony" or not. But that was kind of my problem with EASTERN PROMISES also. It could have been a lot more frightening

It could have been a lot more frightening and fucked up, but I think he chose to play it a little safe. It's in line with his duality motif, but it just doesn't stick with you for long afterward. I'd LOVE to see Crony get back in to a horror/thriller type of film. After all, his greatest cinematic success was from a remake...

Cool

Sounds like classic Cronenberg. His last two films were good and had better production values than his older stuff, but besides the violence, it didn't feel like true Cronenberg. Maybe this is his head back into his original territory, however it may get less mainstream attention. That's ok though.

Damn, and just when A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE and EASTERN PROMISES were giving me hope for Cronenberg.
