Time for another buddy cop action-comedy; Mark Wahlberg to star in Partners

08.11.2015

Another year and another Mark Wahlberg buddy cop action-comedy. Deadline reports that Mark Wahlberg has been attached to star in New Line Cinema's PARTNERS as an LAPD detective. PARTNERS will put a "new spin" on the buddy cop genre; instead of being paired up with the standard male counterpart whom Mark Wahlberg will butt heads with until their inevitable mutual respect for each other at the conclusion, Wahlberg will instead be paired with, get ready to be shocked now, a female partner. Crap on a hat, "new spin" indeed.

In PARTNERS, Mark Wahlberg's character will fall for a beautiful woman after a one-night stand, only to discover that she's an FBI agent and his new superior on a high profile case. New Line is said to be using MR AND MRS. SMITH as a template for the film and plan to include lots of big action set pieces. In addition to a director, the studio is still searching for right actress to pair up with Wahlberg. Do you folks have any suggestions?

Mark Wahlberg's next film, DADDY'S HOME, will reunite him with his THE OTHER GUYS co-star Will Ferrell and is set for a December 25, 2015 release.

Well, since his character sleeps with the female lead..... At least we can rule out Kristen wiig, Melissa McCarthy, maya Rudolph and rebel Wilson. THANK F-ING GOD!!!!! That's the best news. Tired of those damn women appearing in every female comedy role. They aren't even freaking funny. I'll agree, Charlize Theron or Emily blunt would be good. Maybe Elizabeth banks, Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway, Emma stone, or Margot Robbie ....I see them able to pull of a serious FBI type, but can be funny on

Regardless, wahlberg is pretty damn funny and whoever it is they get, he will make it work...

My prediction

The female will be cast as a professional, independent woman and the script will have Mark's character being over-zealous, pro-active, and ready to move.
The female role will hit on "girl-power" in a way that makes Mark's character look like a "dumb male" and she will be championed as the only person in the movie who is caring and intelligent at the same time. In the end they will reluctantly form a mutual respect for one another through a heroic act (i.e. He saves her life or she saves

Honestly, I enjoy the guy's work, but this is going to be another "let's make men look dumb next to their female cohorts" type of movie. I'm over that bullshit.

Mark is a funny dude, so I can get behind this, even if it does end up being a cliche ridden action trope.

I'm fine with this. Wahlberg should be in more comedies, otherwise we'd get an abundance of Channing Tatum action comedies and that is not a good thing.

The female lead, what about Rose Byrne? She's funny in Neighbours.

As a co-star my first thought was Charlize Theron but I also like the Emily Blunt idea.

EMILY BLUNT!

let's just get her character from Edge of Tomorrow, paired with Whalberg's character from the Other Guys, and you basically get a live action version of Fix-It Felix's love story from Wreck-It Ralph.

you got my $24 for date night.

I'm always looking for the next good buddy action movie. The Other Guys was hilarious, and few actors can go toe-to-toe with Denzel Washington without looking way out of their league. So in Marky-Mark I trust. I'm a little concerned that the script could invite some unwelcome sexual politics, so whoever they pick for his partner needs to be able to hold her own with the action and the banter. Why not Rachel McAdams? Her career is taking off and she's shown she can play tough as well as comedy.

Ha! Rachel McAdams was the first name that popped in my head and I actually started typing up why with her True Detective proving her capable in action and comedies like Mean Girls in the past proving why. However, I feel an older woman like Bullock would be better. I don't think they have to be in their fifties but the FBI hires agents with at least a bachelors degree, two years in law enforcement, and starting around age 35, that coupled with her being in charge lends itself to her having

Since she is an FBI agent and in charge I imagine someone a little older in the role. I think Sandra Bullock or Jennifer Aniston would be good.

Please don't let it be Amy Schumer. I can't stand her.

Honestly, wouldn't have thought of her, but I actually think that could work pretty well. It could also be a travesty.
