Time for some trailers; new Fox shows Minority Report, Lucifer, and more

05.11.2015

It's that time again, when the networks unveil their upcoming shows and for us to scoff and go "that looks terrible." Fox revealed their 2015-16 schedule this morning and followed that up by premiering new trailers for several of their upcoming series. It appears that the trend of taking genre properties and turning them into police procedurals is alive and well. Check out the trailers and synopses for each show below.

Precog DASH (Stark Sands, “Inside Llewyn Davis”) – driven by his terrifying, but fragmented visions – now has returned in secret to help a brash, but shrewd police detective, LARA VEGA (Meagan Good, “Think Like A Man” franchise, “Californication”), attempt to stop the murders that he predicts. As they navigate this future America, they will search for Dash’s missing twin brother, ARTHUR, and elude others who will stop at nothing to exploit their precog abilities. Also complicating matters is Dash and Arthur’s ingenious, but reclusive, foster sister, AGATHA (Laura Regan, “Mad Men,” “Unbreakable”), who just wants Dash to return home. A drama of crime and conspiracy, this is a timeless story of connection: two lost souls, Dash and Vega, who find friendship, purpose and redemption in each other.

The Devil has come to Los Angeles…Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR (Tom Ellis, “Merlin”) has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things – wine, women and song – when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux. For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. Compassion? Sympathy? The very thought disturbs him – can the Devil incarnate be tempted toward the side of Good, or will his original calling pull him back toward Evil?

What would you do with a second chance? From executive producer/writer Rand Ravich (“Life,” “Crisis”) and executive producer Howard Gordon (“Homeland,” “24”) comes THE FRANKENSTEIN CODE, a modern reimagining of the Mary Shelley classic, about JIMMY PRITCHARD (guest star Phlip Baker Hall, "Modern Family," "Magnolia") who isbrought back to life by two scientists playing god. Resurrected as a younger version of himself, with physical abilities of which he never dreamed, a re-animated Pritchard (Rob Kazinsky, “True Blood”) is given a second chance at life. What will he do with it? Will he seek vengeance against those who killed him? Will he try to repair the damage he did to his family? Will he embrace a new sense of purpose or fall prey to old temptations?

Meet the Beethoven of private pathologists…ROSEWOOD is the story of DR. BEAUMONT ROSEWOOD, JR. (Morris Chestnut, “Nurse Jackie,” “The Best Man” franchise), the most brilliant private pathologist in Miami. Using his wildly sophisticated autopsy lab, he performs for-hire autopsies to uncover clues that the Miami PD can’t see. Plagued with his own set of medical ailments, Rosewood sees that every moment of life should be embraced and lived to the fullest. And those moments of victims’ lives that will never be are what drive him the most.

How many TV lawyers does it take to try a real-life case in a real-life courtroom? One, and his name is THE GRINDER. Starring Emmy Award nominee Rob Lowe (“Parks and Recreation,” “The West Wing”), THE GRINDER is a new comedy about a famous TV lawyer at a crossroads. When his legal series ends, he decides to move back home and join his family’s real law firm – despite having no formal education, no bar certification, no license to practice and no experience in an actual courtroom.

What’s the fastest way to put the brakes on a cruise-controlled bachelor lifestyle? Fatherhood? Guess again. Television icon John Stamos (“Full House,” “ER”) stars in a new comedy about the ultimate bachelor who discovers he’s not only a father, but a grandfather. Successful restaurateur and man-about-town JIMMY MARTINO (Stamos) is used to being the most suave, most handsome and most single person in the room. All that changes with the surprise appearance of Jimmy’s adult son, GERALD (Josh Peck, THE MINDY PROJECT), and his baby daughter, EDIE. Now Jimmy has to unlearn a lifetime of blissful selfishness and grapple with the fact that he went straight from single to grandfather in six seconds flat.

I was hoping to be a little more impressed with Minority Report but sadly it doesn't look as though it will prove to be a worthy companion to Steven Spielberg's feature of the same name; it felt more like a cross between Person of Interest and Almost Human. The Frankenstein Code looks like it could have potential, but perhaps that's because it's the only one that's not a police procedural or a cringe worthy comedy.

Place your bets folks, which of these shows will wind up on the cancellation block first?

I feel bad for any actors that land a show on Fox network. All of these shows are going to get cancelled. I finally gave up on Fox after they cancelled Almost Human. It was a good sci-fi show. It reminded me of a live action anime, maybe Ghost in the Shell. It also had plenty of humor but got canned too soon. Not going to waste my time with new shows on Fox anymore.

Almost Human was a good show. Speaking of good show that got canceled, was " Alcatraz " owned by Fox? The one that stars Sam Neill. That series was getting very interesting when the studio pulled the plug but I couldn't remember which network owned that show.

Yeah I was enjoying Almost Human too. Was praying for that to get a second run. I reckon it just needed a bit more time and it would have found its groove. They sure as hell didn't help its case by jumbling up the order of the episodes. Who does that? Oh yeah, Fox do. Morons.

Haha.. yeah Alcatraz was on Fox. I never got to watch it but my friend was always telling me it was good.

@MovieManiac.. yeah they messed with the order when they shouldn't have. I think the 3rd or 4th episode was kind of slow and probably turned some people off.

None of these shows looks good, particularly Minority Report - spectacularly bland.

Minority Report :(

Incredibly disappointed. It looks absolutely terrible. Everything is so uniformly washed out, no texture to the cinematography, the acting is bland, etc. It looks like soap-opera, syfy level quality. Minority Report is one of the best sci-fi movies of the past thirty years, and to see an excellent premise reduced to this is disheartening. Lucifer, however, kinda looks like a good time!

Well, I think Grandfathered is kind of adorable. Uncle Jesse sure does age well.

Jesus....

Monority Report looks AWFUL. Some subscription based episodics are good, but most network tv is still trash.

To think that I was actually looking forward to this Minority Report series... Not only does it look horrible, but how come the original film made 13 years ago still look a 100 times more realistic than this crap. The other shows look awful as well.

ummm

the minority report tv show looks awful.

The Government wanted to hide us from the people...but not anymore.

ummm did anyone at least spend 2.5 hours watching the movie at least? the Twins and Agatha were considered Miracles and were 100% shown to the public.

Actually, no, they weren't. Did you watch the movie? They were kept in isolation tanks and the general public thought they were living in luxury.

just rewatched it last night. Nope, no mention of people thinking they were living in luxury. just that they were gifts and that they were called pre cogs. People were aware of them. Sure maybe keeping them in tanks was a secret, but it wasn't overtly a secret as many cops and civilians in the police station knew and people were free to come and go from Tom Cruises office. so actually YEs Im right....you're wrong.
