Timur Bekmambetov's next historical hero may be Thomas Edison
Timur Bekmambetov, director of WANTED and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, may next film another action packed epic supernatural drama thriller about Thomas Edison and the development of electricity.
Okay, so maybe it won't be any of those things, but Bekmambetov is very close to making THE CURRENT WAR his next directorial effort. The screenplay was the 2011 Black List winner and was written by playwright Michael Mitnick.
The script is based on the true story of the public battle fought between pioneers Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to develop electricity and bring it to the masses while also making sure their system is the one that is adopted.
While not exactly known for his dramatic films (because there really aren't any), I never fault a director for trying a totally different genre. I am very much looking forward to ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER because it looks so incredibly ridiculous and fun. Could this be a great movie? Yes, it could, but I do not see how the director's unique visual style will jive with a very dry subject.
Let's just hope that this doesn't end up turning into THOMAS EDISON: LIGHTNING WARRIOR.
|Extra Tidbit:||I hated, hated, hated, hated, hated WANTED. A lot.|
