Strike Back below!
by: Daniel Barna Jan. 6, 2009

Surely one of the most anticipated films in the coming years is the Steven Spielberg/Peter Jackson collaboration TINTIN. As you all know, the two screen giants are joining forces to bring us the adventures of the popular Belgian comic-strip hero and his faithful dog Snowy using motion capture technology. Not much news has come from the production casting-wise, until now.

The adventures of the popular Belgian comic-strip hero and his faithful dog Snowy will feature Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as Thompson and Thomson, the bumbling twin detectives who provide much of the comic relief in the famed graphic novels. Although the two actors look nothing alike, they are by far two of the most talented comedic stars working today, and are indeed inspired choices. This production becomes more and more tantalizing everyday. Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg: keep going like this and you might actually make something of yourselves in this business.

I think, if they make another Indiana Jones, Steven Moffat should write it.

I'm also glad Moffat will be running the Doctor, he's consistently written the best episodes of each series (excluding Paul Cornell's two parter in season 3).

marcovision1: I'm not attacking Spielberg, I think he's a great director, I own a ton of his films, but I think he's the absolute wrong person for this film. Paul Greengrass maybe, if he could tame down a little, if not then Doug Liman

But not Spielberg, and not Jackson, they're auteurs who will not hesitate to change Herge's story/characters at will.

Spielberg is the most successful film director of all time. He obviously knows a thing or two about making movies.

Graphic novels? Really? Sure doesn't look like any graphic novel I've seen. And wasn't the role of Tintin already cast? It was Liam Neeson's kid in LOVE ACTUALLY, or was that just a rumor?

I'm also sad that Steven Moffatt isn't involved in the project but, while it has Spielberg and Jackson, I don't have any interest in it really.

But I am glad that Moffatt is the head of DOCTOR WHO

But I am glad that Moffatt is the head of DOCTOR WHO now. While I love the new series, and am thankful that Russell T. Davies brought it back, I am SO glad that he's leaving. Not so excited about Tennant leaving, though.

Speilberg version: take all the highlights of his films pre-Schindler, add John Williams music and dilute picture with bleach to give "natural light". Ta-Da ! At least with Indy we had a third party to blame, with TIN he's just shooting himself in the foot.

This piece of news is pretty awesome, but seeing Spielberg's name just killed my fun. His plans with Oldboy have put him at number 2 on my shit list. Let's just hope he doesn't screw this up too - he should just sit back and let Peter Jackson do all the work.

I can't say that anything about this project sounds good since Steven Moffat left to devote all his time to Dr. Who. Firstly, why motion capture? Why not live action? Also, I love Pegg and Frost, but a large part of the Thomson and Thomson gag was that they were identical twins, you can't lose that and keep them intact. I say just cast Pegg OR Frost (I think either would be as hysterical). And

And finally, while both Jackson and Spielberg are great filmmakers, they both have a history of raping the stories they adapt (Lord of the Rings, which was good, but come on, he raped it, and for Spielberg, while I preferred Jurassic Park to the book, he wasn't exactly loyal to the source) and I have no faith that they won't completely louse up Herge's masterpiece. At least with Moffat writing I knew that someone genuinely cared for the source material.

This could suck big time or it could be awesome...I'm not sure. It's good news that Pegg and Frost are on board...but who the hell is Tintin? I've never heard of him before they announced these movies months ago. And motion capture looks lifeless and dumb.

Motion capture has always looked creepy and wrong to me. Spielberg is no god. He has made some pretty poor movies and Jackson certainly has is moments but is definitely void of criticism.

Still they aren't stupid peopel by any stretch and with the two of them behind this it could be a force to be reckoned with as each of the are really good at collaborating. Herge's style has always lended

Herge's style has always lended itself to slightly realistic but a dab of cartoon on faces so i hope they do that when it comes down to it instead of a kind of creepy looking polar express fiasco.
Finally Frost and Pegg are great choices! So i'm very hopeful.

With Spielberg it can certainly go wrong. Just look at Indy 4. And once again, live action will always be more appealing than just CGI.

...I'm still wrapping my mind around this.

However:

1--I'm hugely looking forward to this movie, because
2--Spielberg + Jackson = no wrong, and
3--Since it'll be CG motion capture, they'll still LOOK like Thomson and Thompson, only "enacted" and voiced by Pegg and Frost.

Looks sure aren't everything, nowadays!
