I agree with Jake over at Arrow In the Head - what in the holy hell is going on with Jonathan Rhys Meyers' agent/career these days? I do dig the idea of him playing Dracula, but besides "The Tudors" the man hasn't done much of late (FROM PARIS WITH LOVE being pretty bad) and an adaptation of a young adult fantasy novel was not the way I imagined him getting back in the feature film game.

Still, it's what he's doing now and there's no stopping it.  So behold the principle cast list and title treatement for THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES, filming in Toronto next month.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers (AUGUST RUSH, MATCH POINT) as Valentine Morgernstern.
Lily Collins (PRIEST, MIRROR MIRROR) as Clary Fray.
Jamie Campbell Bower (SWEENEY TODD, "Camelot") as Jace Wayland.
Robert Sheehan
(SEASON OF THE WITCH) as Simon Lewis.
Lena Headey (300, DREAD 3D) as Jocelyn Fray.
Jared Harris (SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS) as Hodge Starkweather.
Kevin Zegers (DAWN OF THE DEAD, FROZEN) as Alec Lightwood.
Jemima West ("The Borgias") as Isabelle Lightwood.
Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane.
Kevin Durand
(ROBIN HOOD, REAL STEEL) as Emil Pangborn.
Robert Maillet (SHERLOCK HOLMES) as Samuel Blackwell.
Aidan Turner (THE HOBBIT, "Being Human) as Luke Garroway.
CCH Pounder (ORPHAN, AVATAR) as Madame Dorothea.

And a refresher plot for those as in the dark as I was: THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS is a series of six young adult fantasy books written by Cassandra Clare and published by Simon & Schuster/Margaret K. McElderry Books.  In the series’ first book, the #1 New York Times bestseller, “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly ordinary teenager, Clary Fray, discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons.  After the disappearance of her mother, Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Lily Collins, help me forget about a certain movie related to Snow White that you were in.  Please.

Extra Tidbit: Anyone out there who has read the book(s) have an opinion of this lineup? And for those of you who haven't read the book(s), does this sound interesting enough to warrant a viewing?

Sound cool to me. Haven't read the books, heard of them though. And they are supposed to be good.

Guess we have to wait and see.

Can be good.

I has the books on my bookshelf for over six months, but never got around to read them. Guess I start reading them soon. From all the reviews I read from Amazon, it seems it can be better than Twilight series. There's another love triangle here (groan) which was the main reason that's keeping me from picking up the books, but hopefully (from the reviews) the focus is more on the mythology and action and less on that mopiness. I like Lilly Collins, Meyers & Headey, so this is a step into the

The books could have been good, but I couldn't stand the author's writing or characterization. The ideas are there...so maybe the film adaptation will be better.
