Tobey Maguire discusses ‘Spider-Man 4’ delays

SPIDER-MAN 4 seems to have been snagged in a big sticky web of script snarls and studio scuffles.

But star Tobey Maguire is hanging in there, because you can’t keep a good radioactive-arachnid-bitten superhero down. As he diplomatically says,Like anything, it’s a process. We’re just in the midst of the process. We have a lot of great stuff in terms of story and script. We’re just trying to dial it in and get it ready as quickly as possible. Of course, these movies are a very big undertaking and take a lot more time than a drama or something more straightforward.”

As for all the rumored script issues, the on-screen Peter Parker states: “Not only do I have specific ideas, but the ideas are evolving on the page. It’s all happening right now. It’s all sort of coming together. It’s very exciting to me. I think the evolution of the character is really exciting, to be rooted in the history of what we’ve done already and to have a continuity, yet have a progression or evolution.

The movie obviously isn’t going to make its intended release date of May 6, 2011 (especially now that THOR has taken that spot), but will supposedly still come out next year. And if it doesn’t make summer, AVATAR has demonstrated that a December release can snare super-sized stacks — especially if it’s a 3D movie. And Sony suits have been considering that format for Spidey in the past year.
