Tobey Maguire discusses 'Spider-Man 4' delays

01.08.2010

SPIDER-MAN 4 seems to have been snagged in a big sticky web of script snarls and studio scuffles.

But star Tobey Maguire is hanging in there, because you can't keep a good radioactive-arachnid-bitten superhero down. As he diplomatically says, "Like anything, it's a process. We're just in the midst of the process. We have a lot of great stuff in terms of story and script. We're just trying to dial it in and get it ready as quickly as possible. Of course, these movies are a very big undertaking and take a lot more time than a drama or something more straightforward."

As for all the rumored script issues, the on-screen Peter Parker states: "Not only do I have specific ideas, but the ideas are evolving on the page. It's all happening right now. It's all sort of coming together. It's very exciting to me. I think the evolution of the character is really exciting, to be rooted in the history of what we've done already and to have a continuity, yet have a progression or evolution."

The movie obviously isn't going to make its intended release date of May 6, 2011 (especially now that THOR has taken that spot), but will supposedly still come out next year. And if it doesn't make summer, AVATAR has demonstrated that a December release can snare super-sized stacks -- especially if it's a 3D movie. And Sony suits have been considering that format for Spidey in the past year.

Extra Tidbit: Aside from Batman, does any superhero have a better rogues gallery to pick from than Spidey?

I dont want this film anymore, after the mess that was Spidey 3. They should just let it be and focus on something else. Raimi should get going with real project, 3 Spider-Man movies were enough.

Waiting...just waiting

It doesnt always sit well, when a movie francise hits "snags" but as long as they improve things, then its ok. I was disapointed with Spiderman 3..keep it to one villian, stick to the comic book history, evolve the Peter Parker character..and that should do the trick...maybe.

I'm trying to stay positive here, but as a lifelong Spidey fan I'm starting to fear the worst. I really hope that we can get something akin to Spidey 2, and not Spidey 3. Just recast Kristen Dunst already!

Optimistic ... Hopefully

I think its funny with what toby said how there "rooted in the history of what we've done already and to have a continuity Yet to have Progression or evolution" Well lets hope it stays with some sort of continuity but has plennnttty of Progression and Evolution for the sake of my childhood. :)

Maguire makes this sound so much more eloquent. His PR master has taught him well.

After Batman and Spider-Man, the Flash has the greatest rogues' gallery. Now if only a Flash movie would be in the works.

TIDBIT

X-men could have had a great sequel if they focused on juggernaut and play him the way he was SUPPOSE to be played. too bad they had to screw it up with the last stand

Spidey 4

Glad to hear it's not over for Spidey 4 and that they're taking their time on this rather than rushing it to make it's release date.

Tidbit: X-MEN had some badass foes that really need to make it to the big screen.
