Tom Cruise has made a commitment to star in Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion

For some reason, I'm really excited about Joseph Kosinski's OBLIVION. Actually, I know the reason. The artwork for the graphic novel is spectacular. On top of that he directed TRON: LEGACY which wasn't too shabby.

The journey to get OBLIVION going has been a trying one. There's been issues with budget and the rating. Disney has had the rights for this for awhile now and were not too sure that they could go for a PG-13. Well Kosinski didn't give up, so in turn, Disney has decided to give him the PG-13 rating he wanted.

One constant in the equation has been Tom Cruise. While he wasn't officially on board, his interested in the project remained strong. But today Cruise has committed to star in the film. Cruise will play, "a soldier who's stuck alone on the planet, repairing the drones that patrol and destroy a savage alien life form. He encounters a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together forces him to question his world view."

After filming ends on ROCK OF AGES, Cruise will start on OBLIVION. It's still possible that the actor will join Guillermo del Toro on PACIFIC RIM at the end of the year, but don't hold your breath. Cruise is also being eyed for a starring role in writer Dan Fogelman's (CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE) next project about, "a politician whose pristine reputation is shattered when he gets caught having an affair. With his reputation in tatters, the pol retreats to his hometown to lick his wounds, repair relationships and confront his past."

Extra Tidbit: I'm ready to see a trailer for MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL.

Joblo! Where's the link to the badass R. Gosling 'Drive' clip ?!

not enough to fill the chasm that is 'At the Mountains of Madness', but it's a start - and yes - MI:4 is the flick I'm most excited about... even more than 'Drive' and 'Super 8.'- Here's the 'Drive' clip I've seen way too many times: [link]

Oblivion sounds like it could either be great or go the way of I Am Legend and Priest but I have faith in the director and Cruise is always a good choice.

Definitely intrigued by Oblivion. Never even heard of the graphic novel. I hope they can keep the CGI to a minimum and the creatures in no way resemble vampires or zombies.

Tom Cruise is the man!

Love this news. To be honest i like almost anything Tom Cruise does. Whatever his life philosophy aside, he's a great fucking actor. Completely off topic but does anybody think he was snubbed a nomination for Collateral?! One of the best performances last decade to me.

Cruise always delivers.

Combine that fact with a concept like this and you got a potential instant classic on your hands.

I'm glad to see Cruise still getting work, I thought everyone would be done with him after he went crazy. I still think he should start doing some comedies in order to switch it up a little but these next few movies are fine with me.
