Tom Hardy will star in the Splinter Cell movie

Nov. 14, 2012by: Alex Maidy

It seems that in the very near future, all movies will either be based on Tom Clancy novels or star Tom Hardy. In this case, we will be getting both in the same movie.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Tom Hardy is now attached to star in SPLINTER CELL, based on the Clancy novels and video games. The movie will be written by Eric Singer, who wrote David O. Russell's upcoming AMERICAN BULLSHIT.

The games have a pretty structured plot but the basic story comes down to this: The protagonist, Sam Fisher, is a highly-trained agent of a fictional black-ops sub-division within the NSA, dubbed "Third Echelon". The player guides Fisher, who usually has the iconic trifocal goggles at his disposal, to overcome his adversaries in levels that emphasize light and darkness.

Tom Hardy is currently shooting MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, so he is definitely building up his action hero cred. SPLINTER CELL would be an interesting next step. This could also warrant a possible crossover with his THIS MEANS WAR costar Chris Pine who is starring in JACK RYAN. There were also rumors that Hardy would star in the adaptation of WITHOUT REMORSE, another Clancy adaptation, but I would think this would take him out of the running for that.

He's kind of an odd fit for Fisher, but whatever, I'll definitely see it.

Let's hope this recent wave of videogame movies (Need for Speed, Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell) turns out to be better than what we had before.

Awesome...!

He will knock this role out of the park and it's about time they did Splinter Cell. I've been on the Tom Hardy bandwagon since he filmed Warrior here in Pittsburgh, God going on nearly four years already. A buddy of mine got to play and extra and hung out with Mr. Hardy at the house he rented here playing X-box and what not and he told just what a cool and down to earth guy he was...he even talked about his past history with addiction and told my friend after he was down filming Warrior he was

I started going back and watching his earlier roles and checked out Bronson shortly before Warrior came out and bam! The dude shot to the top of my fav actor list right next to Colin Farrell. OK, enough of my bromance rant. Anyhow, looking forward to seeing this after he kicks ass as Mad Max...

I like Tom Hardy but personally, and at first glance, I don't agree with this casting and I would go with an older looking actor, someone who would fit the original character closer and therefor avoid what happened to Hitman who (amongst other things) suffered a lot from having a baby face somewhat young actor playing a middle age remorseless assassin like 47 is supposed to be. A well made Hitman movie could have been a fantastic movie a so would a Splinter Cell one (to a slightly less degree I

i think i get it...

they can't cast someone older. if this blows up into a franchise, you want someone young to hold up

As much as I like Hardy cast in anything, I'd be much more excited if he'd cast as the badass John Clark in Without Remorse and a bit older actor took the part of Sam Fisher as he would have to look like a world-weary experianced assassin. jxac's suggestion of Clooney is spot on, other most obvious choices are: Bruce Willis and Kiefer Sutherland.

Its nice to see that the universe of Clancy is building up like a mini-marvelverse to bring all the big players individually for potentially

Nice

Tom Hardy keeps getting bad ass roles. Good selection. After watching Bronson, Tom Hardy should always be considered for bad ass roles. The only other person that could be in contention is Bruce Willis, but he might have turned into another McClane role.
