Tom Hiddleston explains what to expect from Kong: Skull Island

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

What story exactly is KONG: SKULL ISLAND going to tell? Where in the overall mythology of King Kong is this new film going to explore?

Tom Hiddleston may have some vague answers for you, so you can comprehend and understand what you're going to get from a return to Skull Island.

When asked in a recent chat whether the film would answer why the islanders built a giant wall to keep Kong in but also a giant door for him to get out, Hiddleston responded, "There will be an answer to that question, yeah. Yes. Jordan Vogt-Roberts has a really interesting take on the whole thing, and it’s really new and original. It doffs its cap to the mythology but also takes it into a new place which I hope you will find exciting."

So basically we're getting a film that explains all the things in the world of King Kong that you may have been curious about but never needed a movie to explain. Some things are just better left unexplained. Some questions are fine and dandy without clear-cut answers. When it comes to movies, our imaginations are quite capable of filling in the blanks and helping write our own stories of how things may have come to be. Not everything needs to be spelled out for us.

Remember when you wanted to know where Darth Vader came from? Then we found out, and it really diminished the cool bad-ass we thought he always was. Remember when you were curious about where someone as smart as Dr. Hannibal Lecter could have gone so wrong? Then we found out, and we wished it would have remained a mystery. That seems to be the path SKULL ISLAND may be going down. Sure, we'll get some Kong action and all… but do we really need to know all that much about his origin, or is it better off leaving those elements to our own wonder? I'm getting the distinct feeling of no right now.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND will reveal all on March 10, 2017.
