Trailer for Ana Lily Amirpour’s The Bad Batch is vast and unknowable

The Bad Batch Suki Waterhouse Ana Lily Amirpour

Ana Lily Amirpour's feature directorial debut A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT was one of my favorite first-time viewings in 2015, so I'm interested in seeing how she'll follow it up and where her career will go from there. For her second feature, THE BAD BATCH, Amirpour has assembled one hell of a cast, a cast that I can't wait to see crossing paths on the screen: Jason Momoa, Keanu Reeves, Giovanni Ribisi, Diego Luna, and Jim Carrey, with Suki Waterhouse taking the lead.

Making it sound even better is the fact that Amirpour cast those actors in

a dystopian fairy tale set in a Texas wasteland where a girl wanders alone into a band of cannibalistic drifters.

I would be extremely excited for THE BAD BATCH right now, if only it hadn't received some bad-to-mediocre word of mouth after its festival screenings. Over on JoBlo, Chris Bumbray gave the film a 5/10 review, while Arrow in the Head managing editor Eric Walkuski gave it a 3/10 review. So I'm trying to keep expectations low while still being highly intrigued.

THE BAD BATCH is scheduled to receive a theatrical release on June 23, 2017, and a trailer has arrived online to start drawing viewers in. The film looks to be deeply strange, and is definitely a "must see" in my book.
