Trailer for Happy Christmas Starring Anna Kendrick and Lena Dunham

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

DRINKING BUDDIES writer/director Joe Swanberg’s new comedy HAPPY CHRISTMAS has its first trailer and it's looking pretty great. I will watch pretty much anything with Anna Kendrick ever since I saw her stealing scenes all over the place in UP IN THE AIR. Here she is working with Swanberg again for what looks like another great role; I would have a hard time buying her as an immature, hard-partying drinker if she didn't seem to be playing it so well.

Here’s the official synopsis:

When Jenny (Anna Kendrick), a hard partying 20-something, moves in with Kelly (Melanie Lynskey), a budding novelist, her film director husband (Joe Swanberg) and their two-year-old son after a break up, the family’s idyllic life is shaken. Jenny begins a rocky relationship with their baby sitter-cum-pot dealer (Mark Webber), and she and a friend, Carson (Lena Dunham), bring Kelly to the realization that an evolution in her life, career and relationship is necessary for her happiness.

Swanberg, who is great at observational comedy, seems to have let things fly with what sounds like a lot of improvised dialogue in the trailer, something I'm personally a fan of. Our own Chris Bumbray called the movie "essentially plotless" but "quite enjoyable" in his Sundance review. I for one am looking forward to Christmas in the summer.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS will be available VOD on June 26th 2014 and opens in theaters on July 25th 2014.
