Trailer for The Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman sings its way online

06.28.2017

The first trailer for THE GREATEST SHOWMAN has arrived! Starring Hugh Jackman as the legendary P.T. Barnum, the film is a musical take on the "greatest showman's" life and times. Directed by first-timer Michael Gracey, the film also stars Zac Efron, Michelle WilliamsRebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya.

Take a look!

Here's the synopsis:

Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.

I seem to remember a longer version of this trailer from CinemaCon earlier this year, but this one is no less effective and knows what it's selling; a rousing, emotional and heartfelt musical tale...just in time for Christmas. The cast is terrific, it looks beautiful and there's a bearded lady singing. I mean, what more do you people want?? Seriously, though, this has all the makings of a seasonal crowd-pleaser and Hugh Jackman is simply a great presence in anything he does, even if it doesn't involve slicing off body parts with adamantium claws.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN sings into theaters on December 25th, 2017.

The only musical that I've really enjoyed in the past twenty years was Sweeney Todd. I'll pass on this.

I'm mixed...

I love the cast, the story of PT Barnum and the look of this movie. But I can't stand modern musicals. Give me sound of music, heck give me Grease but the past bunch of musicals have all sucked. Les Mis, Rock of Ages, Pitch Perfect, Annie, Into The Wood were all terrible. There is always a handful of actors who can't sing, the focus is too much on song and not story and it just gets boring and feels like the songs are longer than the skits between them. Thats what the talking points become,

I know musicals probably aren't most people's cup of tea around here, so let me be the first person to give this a green band. At the very least, it looks like it's going to be a visually stunning feast for the eyes. The only thing that gives me pause is the song, which is a bit more modern and pop-y than I expected from this movie. I wonder if that's what the whole soundtrack is like, or if it'll be sort of a grab bag of genres. I'll be curious to hear more of the music.

Hmmm.
Don't know about this film now. Was hoping for more of the real Barnum a somewhat good-natured conman. This really almost looks like it's TOO cleaned up.
Actually was hoping it'd be based on the Broadway play Barnum with the great song "There's a sucker born every minute."
Watch for protests to start about his 'exploitation' of "freaks' (as they were called then.

Perhaps as Barnum would have it, The Greatest Showman is art constructed to appeal to possibly both conservative and liberal entertainment consumers. On one hand, Barnum is a capitalist icon, and this movie celebrates his business acumen. Also, the movie is a musical--a traditional cinematic artform. On the other hand, the film has a cast celebrating diversity, and the movie includes dialogue specifically celebrating diversity (i.e. Barnum says that his circus exists to showcase a variety of

We shall see if Fox completes the sale as well as The Greatest Showman himself would have. A Christmas premiere should help this movie. I can see families catching this one around the holidays, if they have not seen Star Wars yet.

Fancy Wolverine!

I just don't care for musicals. I would have very much preferred a standard biopic on PT Barnum. A musical makes this film unaccessible to me.

*sigh*

Self-celebratory, saccharine, cliche-fest. Plus Zac Efron. No thanks.

All you need to do is replace Zac Efron with "Disney Channel star whose name begins with Z" and your description works for the new Spider-man movie too. You really missed out on killing two birds with one stone there.

The new Spider-Man is the film I've been waiting 27 years for. Fuck the other films; they got it wrong.

oh great...

another musical to tickle the academy awards for "best" picture...

* is there anything more self-celebratory in Hollywood than musicals? It's so narcissistically annoying *

Ugh, what a shame, a movie that isn't based on a geeky franchise or superhero. Of course it will get a downvote here.
