Trailer for Adam Wingard's You're Next looks like the horror version of Home Alone

The horror home invasion pic YOU'RE NEXT released some cool-looking posters recently and has generated some good buzz from the festival circuit (here's our review from Fantastic Fest).  Based on this trailer, it does look like a lot of fun and feels very distinctly like HOME ALONE meets THE STRANGERS, which is kind of a cool concept.  It's as if the good guys get to win for once!  Maybe.  I have yet to see the film, but I'm definitely intrigued by what I'm seeing so far.  Personally, I find horror films with a more formidable "victim" to be much more engaging than just the endless slaughter without any kind of fight.  YOU'RE NEXT looks like something more my speed.

The film is directed by Adam Wingard, who has made some waves with V/H/S (and will likely do so with its sequel V/H/S 2) and has a dark, spooky, and violent vibe that should make for some good late night scares.

Check it out:

Here's the synopsis:

When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped... until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.

YOU'RE NEXT, starring Sharni Vinson, Ti West, and Joe Swanberg, starts staring in windows with animal masks on August 23, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: You could probably come up with some really fun horror flicks by combining them with an unlikely film. Let's see what you guys can come up with!

Yup, magicwizguy is right. Saw this at Midnight Madness at TIFF a year and a half ago and it was a darkly comic blast.

This trailer just doesn't seem anything like the reviewno family member with the inkling of being capable of handling the baddies and NO hint of humor what-so-ever. Based off of this trailer, I would not be seeing it. And that's sad, especially if the movie is as great as what the reviews are saying.

Trust me. The film is hilarious, and it's good that the trailer doesn't reveal the "twist" on the usual home invasion thriller.

Looks like decent fun, but I'll probably wait for this on dvd unless I'm really bored. This kind of horror doesn't really tickle my fancy much these days.

Having seen the movie, I'd say the trailer is slightly misleading in that it's not full-on horror. However, it's going to be one of the funnest times in theaters you'll have this year. It's REALLY entertaining.

I remember reading some good reviews for this a while back and how it was picked up by a distributor, glad to see it's not languishing in Limbo like some other indie horror movies (cough, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, cough).

Maybe I'm just excited because of the use of Lou Reed's "Perfect Day," but that looks really good. And this from someone who doesn't generally watch slasher movies.

I like that they aren't going for an intentionally grimy look with the photography. It seems that pretty often now the de facto style for this type of movie is to make the whole affair look dirty, as a way of paying homage to the classics of the '70s and '80s that looked that way because they couldn't afford better.
