Trailer that Works

05.08.2009

The first trailer for Woody Allen's upcoming WHATEVER WORKS is pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a movie starring Larry David as a cantankerous hypochondriac who becomes friends with a spunky, southern homeless girl in the form of Evan Rachel Wood. Which is funny, wacky stuff with a side of fourth wall breaking. Click through to check it out in regular quicktime and glorious HD. The film opens June 19th in limited release.

I've never seen any Woody Allen movies. But I have seen every episode of Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm and I've seen Sour Grapes, so I'm a huge Larry David fan and I'll see anything he's in pretty much. This looks like it could be good.

I like it but...

I'm down for seeing this movie only if there is a scene where Larry David rails the hell out of Evan Rachel Wood, while Woody Allen commentates in person in the bottom right corner of the screen. I can dream.

This actually looks pretty good, like Woody found an actor worthy of his voice. Mainly, though, seeing Patricia Clarkson and Evan Rachel Wood together (and Wood playing a true-to-life southerner for I think the first time), not to mention the great Ed Begley Jr. Hopefully he'll share scenes with Michael McKean somewhere in there.

And isn't that Samantha Bee in there? This definitely piques my interest, even if it winds up as another stale self-deprecating Allen movie. The man seems to know
