Transformers 5, G.I. Joe 3, Beverly Hills Cop 4 and more coming in 2016

06.18.2014

On the cusp of the international premiere of TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, Paramount Pictures made the reveal that the sequel is being eyed for a 2016 release, one year sooner than previously expected. At the CineEurope event in Spain, Paramount International's Edward Ryan revealed the slate for the studio over the next couple of years.

While 2015 already appears pretty loaded for Paramount with the release of THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SPONGE OUT OF WATER 3D, HOT TUB TIME MACHINE 2, THE GAMBLER with Mark Wahlberg, TERMINATOR: GENESIS, Michael Bay's found footage PROJECT ALMANAC, FRIDAY THE 13TH 3D, and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5, it was what is coming the following year that raised eyebrows.

Many of these films were already rumored or announced to be in development, but now we have a better release range as Ryan revealed that 2016 will see the premieres of PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5, STAR TREK 3, BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 with Eddie Murphy, Timur Bekmambetov's remake of BEN-HUR, the third G.I. JOE movie, HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS 2, and the sequel to TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION.

Ryan expects TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION to be the biggest film of the summer, something every studio honcho has said about their film this season. Whether it turns out to be true or not, I would fully anticipate that Paramount intends to follow through with Michael Bay's new trilogy, whether the man himself directs the next two films or not. We will find out for ourselves if the movie is worth the price of admission soon.

TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION hits theaters on June 27th.

I wonder why 'World War Z 2' isn't on this list? The WWZ franchise is one of Paramount's biggest and most promising new franchises, I guess it'll get a 2017 release date.

At this stage, 2016 still doesn't have 2015 beat when it comes to movie releases.

Eh, shark would still look fake. That, and Max Spielberg hasn't quite done a lot of work according to imdb.

I'm certain Transformers: Age of Extinction will breath new life to the franchise. It's odd they bring in Galvatron in but not yet Rodimus Prime. Not that I'm against Optimus Prime or anything but it shows that Optimus Prime IS the heart of Transformers. The moment he died in Revenge of the Fallen was the saddest moment of that movie for me.

Are Renner and Arterton returning for Hansel and Gretel 2? Because if not, then all my interest for the film is done.

And it sucks we won't get another Paranormal Activity until 2016.

My 2 cents

Pumped for Star Trek.
Age of Extinction will be better than others but gross the least.
Huge Joe fan but they'll continue to hack that. I've always wanted to see an origin movie of how the Joe's came together, but in a serious tone a la Michael Mann...the reboot maybe?
Ben-Hur, curious.
Hansel and Gretel, guilty pleasure, keep the R-rated theme...

I wish this summer would be the 'Age of Extinction' for the Transformers series. Those movies are unwatchable.

I really like Paramount, I'm glad that they're still kicking ass in a day and age where they don't have any Marvel or DC properties. Hopefully Disney won't swoop in a steal one of their properties like they seem to do a lot.

Axel Foley

I wouldn't mind another Beverly Hills Cop. As long as it's like the first 2, and not the Garbage the 3rd one was. Eddie Murphy could use a come back. And it would show people just how overatted and crappy Kevin Harts movies are.

Obviously these sequels are meant to anchor Paramount's stability in the worldwide film market, but it would have been nice if they announced some big projects that weren't sequels or remakes or adaptations. Needless to say I don't see how audiences will be very interested in yet another GI Joe, or Beverly Hills Cop film. Surely there's some untapped ideas with just as much, if not more potential out there?
