Tripoli waits for Scott

04.18.2002

Every the busy-bee, Ridley Scott has decided to take on a quick project before work on his next historical epic, TRIPOLI, begins.   Scott will direct MATCHSTICK MEN for Warner Bros. this summer from a script by Ted and Nick Griffin (OCEAN'S ELEVEN).  The film, based on the novel of the same name by Eric Garcia, follows an obsessive-compulsive conman who meets the daughter he never knew he had.   MATCHSTICK is also described as being "quirky" and a "character-driven drama" and should be a departure of sorts for the man whose last films have included BLACK HAWK DOWN, GLADIATOR and HANNIBAL.   Scott's work on TRIPOLI is expected to begin next year when star Russell Crowe completes filming on Peter Weir's MASTER AND COMMANDER.
