Wow. Are we starting to go a little heavy on the fairy tale movies here?
The adorable and talented Hailee Steinfeld is attached to SLEEPING BEAUTY, a spec script that is currently going around to buyers. The screenplay was penned by newcomer Lindsay Devlin. So does this mean that Steinfeld will just sleep through most of the film? Nope. Deviln’s script puts a new spin on the tale. The story would be told from Aurora’s (if that’s what they decide to call her) point of view as she enters the dream world and has to find her way out.
Could be interesting. Sounds like a little of ALICE IN WONDERLAND was mixed in there.
Currently there is another version of Sleeping Beauty over at Disney called MALEFICENT. It’s been rumored that Tim Burton is eager to direct and that Angelina Jolie wants the role of the title character. Let’s just go ahead and list the rest: SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, THE BROTHERS GRIMM: SNOW WHITE, HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, and PETER PAN.
Will fairy tales be the next thing to get run into the ground? I’m going to say yes.
