TRUE ROMANCE When Quentin Tarantino was a lowly video store clerk brainstorming ideas that would help him realize his grand Hollywood dreams, he came up with a simple story of boy meets hooker, boy marries hooker, boy steals cocaine from hooker's pimp, boy bangs hooker in phone booth and boy goes on the run from crazy ass pimp, that would, under the master hand of director Tony Scott, eventually become the cult classic TRUE ROMANCE. As an homage to the 15th anniversary of that film, Maxim has gathered all the major players involved in the film and had them talk about the flick: Here's the intro:

Tony Scott (director): When I was directing The Last Boy Scout, my assistant was hanging out with this quirky guy named Quentin Tarantino, and hed be around the set. She said, You gotta read his script. I said, Yeah, right.

Quentin Tarantino (screenwriter): When youre a nobody, its murder to get anyone to read your scripts. So my thing was making the first page fantastic, with dialogue that grabbed you right away. The original True Romance script started with a long discussion about cunnilingus. Most people said the script was racist and that the grotesque violence would make people sick. I told Tony, Read the first three pages. If you dont like it, throw it away.

Scott: He gave me two scripts: True Romance, which was his first script, and Reservoir Dogs. Im a terrible reader, but I read them both on a flight to Europe. By the time I landed, I wanted to make both of them into movies. When I told Quentin, he said, You can only do one.

Extra Tidbit: According to the IMDB, "The work 'fuck' and its derivatives are said 225 times."

Excellent read. The movie is a classic, no question about it. How the film gagged at the box office is still beyond me.

I agree, cool read. I recently bought the director's cut... I love the movie.

"Clarence Worley? Sounds like a ni**er name."
