Tucker stuck in Ruins

04.24.2007

Jonathan Tucker (no relation to the John Tucker who must die, the Tucker who was a man with a dream, Tucker Carlson or Toby N. Tucker) has signed on to star in the Ben Stiller produced thriller THE RUINS for DreamWorks. Tucker is the unfortunate actor cast in the abyssmal NBC drama "The Black Donnellys." Presumably he will be much better in a role that doesn't have him spouting Paul Haggis' sanctimonious drivel. Tucker will star as a college student who travels to Mexico on his vacation and stumbles upon an archaeological dig where something evil is lurking (and it's not just Montezuma's Revenge). The film is based on the novel of the same name by Scott Smith, who also wrote the screenplay. Filming will begin this May where Australia will stand in for Mexico.

Extra Tidbit: Tucker attended Boston Ballet where he starred as "Fritz" in their production of "The Nutcracker."

The Ruins

He's not bad, but there are two college students and a younger German guy. I heard once that Ryan Gosling wanted to play one of the characters, and while that may not be true, I'd see this Tucker fella playing the other college student to perfection.

John Tucker is though, in fact, related to Chris Tucker.

Is that the same Scott Smith who wrote "A Simple Plan"? Cuz I felt similarly about reading that book. And that was AFTER I saw the movie, which toned down a lot of the violence and still came off as pretty effective.

And while I haven't seen "The Black Donnellys" but am aware of them, I have a question. Do you guys just hate Paul Haggis? I mean "Crash" was no masterpiece, but he's not a bad writer at that. Or is it just a politically correct show?

The Ruins is the only novel that actually managed to make me feel sick to my stomach. I'm not saying it's so bad it made me want to vomit, I'm saying the detail in one of the characters deaths was so good I felt like I was going to blow chunks. Very gory book, hopefully they'll be able to pull off the cross-over to film.

And, yeah, The Black Donnellys sucks balls.
