TV Bits: Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire

Jan. 9, 2014by: Niki Stephens

Are we still enjoying BOARDWALK EMPIRE? Have you just binge watched? Are you anxious for another season?

Good News: You get another season.

Bad News: The series ends after that season.

Yep, HBO has announced that BOARDWALK will end after season five. Terry Winter, the shows creator and executive producer had this to say about the show's run, "After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, weve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion."

As much as I'd love to talk to you about the show, I'd be spoiling it for someone else which is the exact treatment you're going to get as I move on to the next show.

Good news all around for GAME OF THRONES fans! We finally have a date for the premiere of season four! Plus, a date for the first true trailer!

GOT will begin on April 4, 2014. Okay, I know that's not like right now but unfortunately you have to be patient. So drink some wine and calm it down until then. What about the trailer? That you will get sooner than you think. Catch the trailer right before TRUE DETECTIVE on Sunday at 8:58PM ET. Don't worry, if you don't get to see it, we will certainly post it as soon as we have it. We understand your needs.

Which show are you excited for? Are you ready to let go of BOARDWALK EMPIRE?

A note on boardwalk

This last season if boardwalk started off good and then just went off the tracks bringing in too many characters no one cares about. If they just stuck with Chalky and Nucky, it would've been awesome. I mean the whole plot with Jimmy's mom was stupid and having Nucky's ex back in the series didn't contribute much to the season. This was supposed to be Chalky's season. Maybe it's the shows discredit that it came around the same time breaking Bad ended but a show with so much oppurtunity should

Maybe it's the shows discredit that it came around the same time breaking Bad ended but a show with so much oppurtunity should at least rethink about focusing on too many characters. Even Sopranos did it right until the last episode.
I just hope the writing and focus is strong for next season because this show needs to come back after that lackluster season. first 3 seasons were great. 4th eh.

I can't wait for Game of Thrones to come back. That show has been amazing since the first episode. And there's till so much more story to tell with it.
As for Boardwalk, I've been loving the hell out of that show. It kind of sucks that it will be ending at Season 5, but then again I always appreciate it when producers decide to end their shows on a high note and go out with a bang rather than milk it for all it's worth and see he show become a ridiculous mess (looking at you The Office).

Boardwalk Empire is great but ...

There's been a big problem the last seasons, the show doesn't have a goal, a destination. From the beginning I thought it would mainly be focused on the relationship between Nucky and Jimmy, but that ended sooner then I thought. Since then there has just been a bunch of different stories floating around and Nucky was just as much a supporting character this season as anyone else.

With that said I'm happy that they're ending it and hopefully they'll go out on a highnote. There are some parts

With that said I'm happy that they're ending it and hopefully they'll go out on a highnote. There are some parts of history that I really wanted to see them explore but that will probably not happen now tho, which is a shame I guess. I would be all for some sort of Luciano spin-off.

I love Boardwalk even more than Game of Thrones and am sad to hear it'll be ending. That said, I'd rather be sad that it's ending than sad that it continues on long past its expiration date, and I have no doubt its final season will be a strong one!

Love Boardwalk Empire and although it'll be sad to see it go I'm glad they're not going to milk it for the sake of it. End it strong.
Still surprised the interent was awash with the death of Brian the dog and not how Season 4 of BE ended!

Boardwalk Empire is one of my all time favorite shows but since the creators are ready to let it go, I'm ready. I'm confident that since they know going in it's the final season they can end it well. Breaking Bad proved you don't need more than five seasons to be an amazing tv show with a great satisfying ending.

Can not wait for Game Of Thrones to start though I've been wondering how or when they'll end this series. I haven't read the books but I know there are 5 out now with 2 more planed.

With book 3 being seasons 3 and 4. Even if they split books 4 and 5 into multiple seasons I'm sure they'll catch up to the book series before it ends. And even if they don't Game Of Thrones could go on from anywhere between 8 to 12 seasons. Which seems like a lot. Especially for an HBO series. I'll watch regardless but the ending of this is going to bug me until it happens.

I love Boardwalk Empire Season 1-3 but not much with Season 4 - seems like so many stories to tell but not enough time.

I agree about season 4. By far the weakest season in my opinion.

Yeah, it just has so many stories but not enough time to fully tell them.

Yup. Too bad. Do a Godfather series HBO!!

Boardwalk Empire is one of my favorite shows and it's too bad it's almost over... But the loss of Boardwalk Empire makes way for another mob show since HBO seems to have a trend going on there. I'd love for them to go a bold step and do something like The Godfather as a series. Since Al Pacino recently did a Phil Spector movie for HBO, it's clearly not out of the question for him to do another stint for HBO. He could be in the first three episodes then go out like Brando. Maybe pass along the

Maybe pass along the family lead to Andy Garcia to keep with the established movies. Buy the rights from Puzo's estate, get some of the writers from Sopranos and some from Boardwalk and it would probably end up being my all time favorite show. Maybe. Easier said then done!!!

Chalky is going to go on a massive killing spree OR knowing Boardwalk they will kill him off in the season premiere. Sad to see the show go. SPOILERS: Still miss Jimmy and was devastated by the finale.

Boardwalk Empire is one of the more under appreciated shows on tv. I'll be sad to see it go, but I rather them end it sooner than have it drag on like too many shows. I hope they go all out with the finale.

Boardwalk Empire is a great show. Glad to see its more about quality over quantity and I wish more shows would take note.

Like JimThePariah stated below, five seasons is a good number for a quality show to go out on.

Hmmm I at least thought it would go six.....,

But if one of my favorite shows of all time-(Six Feet Under)-shows us anything, all you need is five seasons. On the real though, they're probably going to milk Game of Thrones for all it's got, Boardwalk was costing too much for period detail and actor salaries and they want to free up some cash to go to other projects. Which is fine by me, I want to see more Michael Shannon, Steve Buscemi, Michael K Williams, and Shea Whigham on the big screen.
