EPISODE 10: The New World

THE HOOK: Rick and Daryl’s supply run becomes a game of cat and mouse when a mysterious stranger shows up and steals their score.

The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS, so I don’t recommend reading this if you haven’t watched this episode

THE LOWDOWN: After a balls to the wall intense episode last week, I’m not at all surprised to see a slower, character building episode follow. Sure, haters gonna hate, but for me, it was all good, mainly because we had a new face join the fray. In the comics, Jesus is a cool character. He’s a smooth talking, martial arts using badass to be more precise. Now, he’s not looking all too saintly in this episode, stealing the boys’ truck and giving them the runaround. That said, he did save Daryl’s ass, so there’s that. I’m a little foggy with what transpired during his comic book intro, but lugging his ass back to Alexandria is bound to make for some interesting conversation. Especially given tonight’s ending.

I was expecting to see some catching up with our characters tonight in light of how they just got back together—Maggie and Glenn reuniting was at the top of that list, along with whatever drama Abraham and Sasha’s newfound feelings are bound to bring to the table. Aside from the Shane and Lori debacle, we’ve never really had much of a love triangle going on. Yet, no, we get none of that, and well, that’s not a bad thing. I’m curious to know how much time passed though, as we immediately saw a framed picture of eye bandaged Carl holding Judith. Speaking of Carl, is it me, or is going out for a picnic and comic book reading session with Enid in the woods a f*cking ridiculously bad idea? I get it guys, it’s your spot (the hollowed out tree), but can’t you hang out in a secluded room somewhere, you know, where you don’t have to worry about walkers? Just a thought.

Due to the wonders of the internet, I had a feeling I knew exactly what Spencer was up to. Rumors of Dianna coming back as a walker have been going around for months now, but honestly, I expected to see her last week. Once I saw the shovel though, I figured either he knew where she was, or trapped her somewhere until he could muster up the courage to do what was necessary. This scenario was touching, but nowhere near as heartwarming as Michonne’s chat on the porch with Carl. We all knew this thing with her and Rick was coming, hell, the beginning of the episode made it loud and clear—holy foreshadowing Batman! I loved the overhead shot (after they did the deed) of them naked with their weapons on either side of the bed. Not sure if that was lifted from the comics, but it was pretty damn cool…until Jesus-Mc-Creeper waltzes in. Shit bro, you could’ve knocked.

THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 6’s tenth episode slowed down the pace, sure, but it was still pretty cool to see to Rick and Daryl doing runs together (I guess Aaron’s not up for it anymore). Rick and Daryl are the dream team anyway, so who cares what they’re doing, you know it’s going to be awesome. Losing the food truck was rough, but hey, at least they got some Orange Crush out of the deal. I see those two in the pic below and I can’t help but think BOONDOCK SAINTS 3: THE APOCALYPSE. Now that’s a movie I’d pay money to see! On the one hand, it doesn’t feel like much happened tonight, but like I said, I don’t mind some character building (the Maggie and Enid bit felt a little off though), and I can’t wait to see what surprises Mr. Jesus has in store. He’s a good guy in the comics, so here’s hoping he’s a good guy here too.

ZOMBIE KILL OF THE WEEK: We’ll go for emotional kill of the day, which was Spencer having to put his mother out her misery. It looked easy, but that would be a nightmare for anyone.

BLOOD AND GORE: Not much tonight, but Michonne did manage to lop off a zombie head.

COOLEST SCENE: Rick and Michonne getting it on. It may not seem like much, but in the comics Rick is with Andrea at this stage of the game, and well, she’s not around so now he’s with Michonne—a much better choice, clearly. These two will be the power couple of the apocalypse. I’m excited.
