Two new featurettes for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 go deeper into the story

Two new featurettes for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 have swung online today, each diving a little deeper into the story and the action of the webhead's latest big screen adventure. Featuring a nice helping of new footage, some behind the scenes action, and interviews with director Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Paul Giamatti, there's nothing too spoilery, but enough that may serve to excite or upset, depending on how you feel about the upcoming sequel.

"The price of being a hero":

"Lights, camera, action!":

Here's the synopsis:

We've always known that Spider-Man's most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

So far, I'm feeling this, as I've stated before. I was NOT feeling the first film at all and still regard it with a dismissive nod, but this looks like they may have hit their stride. It seems like they've captured the playfulness and seriousness of Peter Parker's world, which is evidenced in the comics (well, minus Kraven's Last Hunt, but that's another story). Peter has always been a goofball that jokes his way through difficult situations and I'm glad they haven't shied away from that and tried to make him into some dark, brooding character in this one (which was teased a bit in the first film). He just feels more Spidey to me, although I know some of you feel the opposite. We'll see how it all shakes out in a few months.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.

Give it a rest. Go watch Spider-Man 3 again if you dig the Raimi films so much.

Probably the clearest look we have at the Goblin so far. The stuff on his face kind of reminds me of Witchblade. The whole theme of "the price of being a superhero" was something I thought was given a lot of play in Sam Raimi's films and actually done quite well, if somewhat heavy-handed. The events that lead up to Peter briefly relinquishing the Spidey identity in the second film and how it all gets to his head in the third...I was pleasantly surprised by TASM 1 but it just seems that this new

Still holding out hope for this one and apparently Singapore is a stop on their promotional tour (that never ever happens) so I might be able to attend the press conference.
