Two new X-Men are joining Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

04.24.2013

Bryan Singer continues his Twitter machine reveals today, sending out X-fans a nice tease about two X-men who will make their first live action appearance in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, namely Bishop and James "Warpath" Proudstar. Casting hasn't been announced for the two roles yet, but Singer has at least confirmed their existence, which will surely excite longtime X-fans who have been hoping to see an introduction of such favorites into the live-action realm.

Here's the Tweet:

Although not officially announced, there are two castmembers listed on imdb that could easily be attributed to these roles, that being Eric West or Omar Sy for Bishop and Booboo Stewart for Warpath. Although not confirmed they seem like pretty likely candidates.

Here's a little history on the characters:

Bishop:

Bishop was a member of Xavier's Security Enforcers (initially called the Xavier School Enforcers), a mutant police force from a dystopian future of the Marvel Universe. He traveled to the 20th century and joined the X-Men, a team he knew only as legends. A brash antihero, he had difficulty adjusting to the norms of the time period. After a decade and a half of acting as a member of the team, Bishop was instead portrayed as one of the X-Men's main antagonists.

Warpath:

An Apache Native American, Proudstar possesses mutant superhuman strength and speed, like his older brother, the short-lived X-Man Thunderbird, though Warpath's power-levels are much higher.

He originally blamed the X-Men for his brotherís death and joined the villain group the Hellions to get revenge. He later reconsidered his views and became a longtime member of the militant X-Men offshoot X-Force. After a long journey to the Shi'ar Empire with the Uncanny X-Men, Warpath became a member of the new incarnation of X-Force but he left after the events of Necrosha

This movie is definitely stacked, which is causing many to be concerned that there are far too many characters to be successful. However, the X-Men comics are always chock full of a steady rotation of characters, so it's at least consistent with the native medium.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, starring Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellan, Omar Sy,Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Paquin, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore, Booboo Stewart, and Eric West is slated for theaters on July 18, 2014.

I don't care about this movie anymore. Singer will turn this into an X-men 3 redux with shit tons of mutants, lame cameos, and bad casting. And now that Dave Chapelle is playing Bishop, I'm out. As far as I'm concerned "The Avengers" are the only comic book superhero team worth watching. X-men is the dusty old cooch no one wants anymore.

Mystique and Beast doesnt appear, either the unannounced characters of the 70's. We know Peter will be the villain, so thats why these characters. That is the future cast/characters

The problem is that Bryan Singer is gay, and because of that he doesn't understand certain things, like for instance the concept of 'Badass'. Bishop is supposed to be badass. Omar Sy is not. Singer usually casts pretty boys or "model"types in his male roles, the kind of men he personally finds attractive.

Marvel need to reaquire the rights to all their characters and do the X-Men justice.

None of the X-Men movies have really hit the nail on the head, but the first two were at least enjoyable. Since then it's just gone from bad to worse. How can you call a movie X-Men FIRST CLASS that only has one true member of the first class in it? If they had rebboted with Scott, Jean, Warren, Bobby, and Hank, the movie would have been amazing. Instead we got nightcrawler knockoff, Havok, fairy girl, etc. The only compelling parts involved Charles and Magneto. I don't hold out much hope

Doesn't look like a First Class sequel to me anymore.

This probably won't be billed as "From the guy who did Jack and the Giant Slayer". No sir.

Wow. Buzz on this film has been very positive up until an image of Halle Barry was released. It wasn't even a bad image, it was just the fact that it was Halle Berry. Fanboys seem to de-evolve with every passing year.

i grew up on saturday morning cartoons. X-men was the only one i cared about. my name is chris brown and this is my opinion clever guy: I DONT LIKE THE X-MEN MOVIES. i wanted to like the movies but i dont know what happened. i agree that the second one was the best of them all but thats about as far as i would go. i would really like to see Zack Snyder give us the real X-men. I know he would at least have the characters somewhat resemble the comic book. Bring on the hypocrites!

Double Standard

How come people always complain about x-men movies adding more characters, but when talking about Avengers sequels everyone is like, let's add Ant-man, Spider-man, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Wasp, etc. Such a double standard. But this is coming from someone who thinks X2 is better than Avengers. The comics have handles multiple characters, I'm sure the movie can as well.

You guys are all forgetting...

Singer loves pumping these movies with cameos. And he's great at them. A lot of these people are probably only going to be given a couple lines. And I'll bet there will be more characterization in those few lines then Ratner gave Beast the entire fucking movie of X-Men 3. Come on fanboys, MUTANTS!

Did anyone notice Blink in there??? They do know that no matter what form she comes in that she is purple with pink hair and green glowing eyes. I'm guessing she is part of the future since Magneto does not have a need for a teleporter in the past (she helped Magento in the cartoon series). Here is another throw in character that is going to be backdrop candy. I love the character since the Age of Apocalypse but I feel she will have two minutes like Kitty in X3.

We just took a step back a decade...

This movie wreaks of superhero movies pre-"Iron Man". Back when we'd get these very loose adaptations, and they'd explain that, "Well, it can't be just like the comic. Comics don't work as movies." I feel like Singer is way out of touch, or Fox in general. "X-Men: First Class" was a step in the right direction, but now it's like they haven't learned shit from the last decade of success Marvel Studios has had being more creative and faithful to the source material. "No, we want black suits, too

Good news about Bishop, he should be there, but i'm starting to get the feeling this is gunna be a fail like X3. Wolverine fest.

Also like to see Gambit in there, simply because their rivaly chemisty in the 90's animated show was great.

All I know is that Bishop better be the badass motherfucker that he is in the comics and television animated shows. Having him in this movie or in any X-Men film is huge for the franchise and for us fans.

I know it would never happen, but I'd like to see Gambit in this somehow. He was always one of my favorite X-Men who sadly never made it into the original trilogy and I feel like we didn't get enough of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

re: casting

no thanks. i mean, Warpath is kind of a who0gives-a-shit, though there was room for some better choices than a Twilight bit character. but neither of these Bishop choices fit at all. West is an unproven actor who weighs a buck 50 TOPS ans Sy is a great actor who i dont even think can speak english worth a damn and who isnt much bigger than West. Bishop is an imposing figure, with an overdose of cool. like Lando Calrissian on roids. i think they are missing the mark here.

i must disagree. im older and i recall Bishop's arrival shaking up the X universe and was the hot topic until Cable came on the scene. i doubt the movie will get far enough into this to bring Cable into the story, so Kitty Pryde and Bishop will be the lynchpin characters tying past to future.

Other than their race these actors look nothing like the characters they are expected to play. They are both way too small. Bishop is supposed to be a warrior that has endured a lifetime of battle and suffering. It is essential to the character. This does not look like the guy to bring that to the role. The choices they are making on this film seem to be getting progressively worse.

Awesome!

Bishop is one of the last major characters that deserves to appear in the films that hasn't yet. If there's one thing the X-Men films have done consistently well, its picking awesome rising talent to fill in their roles. From Hugh Jackman in the original to Aaron Stanford in X2 to Ellen Page and Ben Foster in X-Men 3 and Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult in First Class, they really have made some very savvy casting choices. Warpath I can see being added to the 1970's roster of X-Men pretty easily. They don't seem to be keeping to the comics so much with how those characters are introduced to the X-Men (i.e. Havoc). As far as Bishop, I'm interested to see how they add that character into the mix. But either way, the guy they're saying might be cast as Bishop is a brual choice, they should definitely go with Dwayne Johnson before he slims down from Pain and Gain.

Keep in mind that's not an official casting announcement, just a random guess based on the cast listing at IMDB. I agree though, I can see Warpath fitting right in with the young X-Men in the 70's and then Bishop being sent in from the future similar to his role in the animated series adaptation of the storyline.

Not Eric West. If he was Singer would have announced him as a cast member long ago. And if that truly is the case than Sy is awwwwwwesome casting in my bookj, of course if you just want all of your superheroes to be played by MMA fighters and wrestlers like Dave Bautista in Guardians of the Galaxy, then that is your prerogative, but some of us prefer actual actors.

She was Rogue waaaay before True Blood even existed. But I was never a fan of her casting anyway. The X films have fucked up most of the characters they are based on.

Umm... Warpath starts out in the comics as a teenager (as a member of the Hellions and later the New Mutants). The dude's a Native American teenager. And they cast a Native American teenage actor as him. Plus, the Twilight films might be crap themselves but they've had a lot of great actors appear in them such as Michael Sheen, Lee Pace, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anna Kendrick and Jack Huston. Likewise a lot of talented actors have done suck movies, so I have no idea how him appearing as a minor

I mean heck Colossus and Leech both appeared in the Twilight films too, does that mean we need to recast them now?

Good. I was worried that there would be a shortage of characters in this movie... :P Still looking forward to it, though.

E.T.

Glad they're bringing in Bishop. He is kind of essential to the original storyline. I'm wondering if they'll bring in Scott and Jean in the future timeline like they did during the Red and Slim storyline. Scott and Jean were kidnapped by Mr. Sinister and thrown into the dystopian future where they fought for their lives for years before finally returning just a few hours or so after their kidnapping. Something tells me Singer would come up with some crazy shit where Jean didn't kill Cyclops

Sounds like B.S. but crazier things have happened in the Marvel Universe.

Umm... he's essential to the Saturday morning cartoon version of the story, he doesn't appear at all in the actual comics version though, that storyarc happened almost a decade before the character of Bishop was created.

I figured Bishop was going to be in there.

I'm excited about Warpath, though. I love that character. Hopefully he's as badass as he is in the comics.

Who's this Erik guy??

Bishop should be Omar Sy as rumored all these months. This Erik guy has appeared on IMDB now of a sudden. And Singer has announced all new additions, not imdb.
