Uh Oh! Brad Pitt and World War Z director Marc Forster are not speaking to each other

07.13.2012

In what could never be construed as good news, WORLD WAR Z star Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster are not currently speaking to each other at all.

The troubled production is heading into significant reshoots in Budapest. According to Vulture, things got so bad that when Forster had notes on a scene for Pitt, they had to be relayed through an intermediary — and vice versa. We’re told that this awkward function was and is being largely fulfilled by a rotating trio of studio production president Marc Evans, Paramount film group head Adam Goodman, and Dede Gardner, a former executive at the studio who now runs Pitt’s company. And all this as the production crests $170 million as it heads into its costly reshoots, with an ending that is still in flux. (A representative for Creative Artists Agency, which represents both Pitt and Forster, declined to comment. Calls to Paramount were not returned by deadline.)

Not good, people. Pitt, who is also producing the film, seems to be calling the shots right now on the new screenwriters that are coming in to fix the ending of the film. PROMETHEUS scribe Damon Lindelof was brought in but it looks like he proclaimed the script needed major overhauls, not just spot fixing. Drew Goodard is now on board to help Lindelof and Christopher McQuarrie may jump in as well. The sources for the report are claiming that the studio is still trying to decide whether or not to completely change the ending or try to edit around what they have. Either way, these are major warning signs that something is wrong with the movie as a whole. The sources also went so far as to say that another director may be pulled in to reshoot the action scenes.

Both Pitt and Forster have an incredible work ethic, which makes it hard to decide whether or not this is an ego battle or a creative rift. I would venture that Pitt will end up the winner seeing as he is both one of the biggest movie stars in the world as well as one of the primary producers. Either way it goes, my once unbiased desire to see this movie has become a little more hesitant. Who knows at what point WORLD WAR Z will make it to theaters and whether or not Forster's name will remain in the credits. We are still a far way away from a new Alan Smithee film, but you never know.

Sounds like a complete disaster... how long before it hits the straight to dvd shelf to try and recoup some of its money.

Wow.....

They're probably going to release a documentary about the making of this movie before the movie comes out to recoup some of the money.

With problems this bad, it should have been known before filming. Who in the hell would approve a $170 million budget for a movie with a shitty script?

*sigh*

I once read a review/comment on the original script by J. Michael Straczynski, that asked "Can zombie movie be nominated for Best Picture Oscar", or something like that. Now, with all this going on... What once seemed like a game changer in horror movies, is quickly becoming one the biggest disasters since League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I mean, there still is a slim chance that it might be good after all, but I have my doubts.

And it's horrible to read these news, when it's about the

I knew it...

When they picked Forster to direct, this was headed for trouble. While I think "Quantum of Solace" wasn't as bad as some believe, I am not sold and his ability to bring this book to life. Pitt should have let his friend Soderbergh direct this mess.

Soderbergh would have nailed it. And he'd have already made the sequel by now.

Bad to worse

Troubling news, no doubt, but then again, I always think back to films like Jaws and Apocalypse Now, which were notoriously hellish productions. They didn't have nearly the budget that this one does, but still, the finished products speak for themselves. I'm hopeful that perhaps this won't turn out to be as big a disaster as many would think.

I for one am pumped for this movie. Why? Because it's become such a huge clusterfuck that there's no way I can not see it. All this negative publicity surrounding it has piqued my interest, I just have to see how bad they fucked the book up.

Is this some kind of weird reverse marketing? Cause it's working.

I have faith in Pitt

However bad things looking right now, here's HOPING for an Apocalypse Now and not another Cleopatra or Ishtar!

Marc Forster is one of my favorite directors, and Brad Pitt is an amazing actor. All the troubled stories from the set make me very nervous for all involved.

So far World War Z has a lot of bad news lately. Hopefully it won't affect the movie much. Fingers crossed.

But how can a PG-13 zombie apocalypse film possibly go wrong?

Brad Pitt hand-picked Marc Forster.

Brad Pitt's Brain: Hmm, let's hire the director whose hits are small character driven films and whose misses are big action/supernatural movies.

Ruh Roh...

A friend just showed me the "Entourage" episodes from season 4 where the Pablo Escobar biopic goes to hell in a hand basket due to major script problems and an insane director. Not that Marc Forster is exactly insane (although I despise most everything about "Quantum of Solace"), but I'm sort of getting that same vibe here.

It's completely understandable.

This is what happens when you hire a director that has no fucking idea of what an action movie is. Anyone remember what he did in "007: Quantum of Solace"?

You know, if they'd stuck to the source material from the beginning and not assumed they were smarter than it, this wouldn't have happened.

I do want a good WORLD WAR Z film and hopefully things turn out fine in the end, but honestly this production had it coming and they deserve this grief.

Perhaps...

Maybe Gore Verbinski & Marc Forster should swap productions of The Lone Ranger & World War Z... Because as it stands right now it kind of sounds like they're both fucked anyways.

But I'd much rather they were good movies... Just for the sake of I'm a little tired of being almost constantly underwhelmed by movies.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst!
