UK trailer for Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects with Rooney Mara and Jude Law finally makes the film look interesting

Threatening-to-retire director Steven Soderbergh's latest film, SIDE EFFECTS, starring Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Jude Law, and Catherine Zeta-Jones didn't do much for me on the first trailer.  I know it's cliche to liken a film to looking like a made-for-cable movie, so you can just go ahead and throw this one on that fire for me (which is ironic, considering that Soderbergh's next film IS actually made-for-cable).  Until now.  I'm not saying that this trailer changed my life or anything, but it does add a layer of depth that the original U.S. trailer left out.  Of course, you could also liken that to giving away the whole damn plot, so there's that.  Still, my interest wasn't even at Netflix level before.  Now, I'd at least put it in my queue.

The script is from Scott Z. Burns, frequent collaborator of Soderbergh's (they did THE INFORMANT! and CONTAGION together), who is currently penning the DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES script.  The new UK trailer for SIDE EFFECTS highlights some of the more intricate story threads from Burns, which appears to set up star Rooney Mara as a compelling, manipulative, and diabolical femme fatale, much like some of my ex-girlfriends.  I loved Mara in THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and am hopeful that she can slide into some roles as meaty as Lisbeth Salander.  Could SIDE EFFECTS be one?

Take a look:

SIDE EFFECTS is set to open on February 8, 2013.

Kate and Rooney Mara: Hottest sisters ever?

Extra Tidbit: I know it looks grim, but my hope is to see Mara back in The Girl Who Played With Fire someday...

looks solid, though i worry Channing T might be out of his depth a bit.
and as for hottest acting sisters, no way. i'd give that to the Arquettes, the Tillys the Olsens, the Deschanels, the (dare Isay it) Fannings...the list goes on.

"From the Director of Contagion and... Magic Mike?" Lulz.

Nevertheless, this looks intriguing. Not quite sold, but I'll keep an eye out for this one.

And The Ocean's Trilogy . . . And Haywire . . . And Traffic . . . And Erin Brokovich, The Girlfriend Experience, Bubble, Out of Sight, Solaris, The Informant!, sex, lies and videotapes and many more. This guy had quite a diverse career, exploring may different genres. It's kind of impressive what he accomplished in his career. I also made that list without looking at his filmography, so I missed a lot more.

No, I know. Don't get me wrong but I figured because this movie isn't necessarily marketed towards the beefcake crowd, I thought maybe it would have said "From the Director of Contagion and Haywire" or "From the Director of Traffic and Sex, Lies and Videotape." The 'Magic Mike' bit took me by surprise and I honestly had to stop the trailer and chuckle.

Ablixa aka ambien

Looks like a critique of the pharmacology health industry. I thought Contagion had potential but was overall rushed, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Magic Mike.
