St. Agatha Darren Lynn Bousman

With THE NUN now in theatres and raking in the dough, this is the perfect time to hear a positive update on SAW II (and III and IV) director Darren Lynn Bousman's own convent-set genre project, ST. AGATHA. The positive update: Uncork'd Entertainment has acquired the North American distribution rights to the female-driven psychological horror film.

Written by Andy Demetrio, Shaun Fletcher, Sara Sometti Michaels, and Clint Sears, ST. AGATHA has the following synopsis:

In the 1950s in small-town Georgia, the film centers on a pregnant con woman named Agatha is on the run and seeks refuge in a convent. What first starts out as the perfect place to have a child turns into a dark layer where silence is forced, ghastly secrets are masked, and every bit of willpower Agatha has is tested as she learns the sick and twisted truth of the convent and the odd people that lurk inside its halls.

Sabrina Kern, Carolyn Hennesy, Courtney Halverson, Trin Miller, and Seth Michaels star.

Uncork'd is planning to give ST. AGATHA a theatrical and digital release sometime in the first quarter of 2019.

The distributor's president Keith Leopard had this to say about the film:

With brilliant direction from one of the new masters of horror and a unique and chilling script that features strong female characters, we’re certain audiences are going to really embrace ST. AGATHA. Uncork’d is honored to be releasing such an incredible film."

ST. AGATHA got some good reviews when it premiered at the Overlook Film Festival earlier this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Bousman did with this nunsploitation concept.
