Universal announces Snow White and the Huntsman sequel slated for 2015 and development on another Bourne movie

04.16.2013

CinemaCon is a hotbed of news today and a lot of it seems to be coming from Universal. First there was the news that FAST AND FURIOUS 7 will hit summer 2015 alongside a sequel to sleeper hit PITCH PERFECT starring Anna Kendrick. Now we are hearing they are aiming for 2015 to also feature the follow-up to SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN and possibly another chapter in the Bourne franchise.

The 2015 SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN release date is the first concrete news we have gotten on the project. After the Kristen Stewart/Rupert Sanders debacle in the tabloids, it remained unclear which, if either, would return for the second film. We know now that Stewart is in, but Sanders is out. With Charlize Theron's character, the lone bright spot in the original movie, not appearing in the second film, I would venture to guess the budget will be significantly lower that the estimated $200 million the first cost.

As for Bourne, the sequel is in some stage of development but Universal offered no details on whether or not it would feature Jeremy Renner reprising his role from THE BOURNE LEGACY or if it would return to the Matt Damon character, or possibly the rumored face-off between both characters. Matt Damon's slate is very full right now, but with LEGACY making less than any of the Damon films, it would be smart to have both stars share screen time.

Whichever way things go, Universal is looking to have one of the busier slates of movies compared to other studios. While most of them are sequels and not very many original projects, yet, it is looking like 2015 is going to be one hell of a year at the movies.

And I disagree about Theron being the only bright lone spot in Snow White. I thought Chris Hemsworth stole every scene he was in and gave a terrific performance.

I liked the Bourne Legacy. That film needed Jeremy Renner to actually go toe-to-toe with Edward Norton, so I hope that happens in the sequel. And an appearance from Matt Damon, natch. Snow White and the Huntsman was good apart from Kristen Stewart. I hope they re-cast the role with someone who doesn't give the forest a run for its money in the wooden department. And a badass villain would be great too, Charlize Theron's evil queen will be a tough act to follow.

I both enjoyed Bourne Legacy and Snow White and The Huntsman, so both films getting sequels is great news to me.

I do hope that for the Bourne sequel that Renner comes back. Even though his character was no Jason Bourne(which was the point), I still enjoyed his backstory and would like to see what happens after they get off the boat.

Interested in Bourne

I was the few who enjoyed Bourne as introduction to something new.

Snow White...fuck that film...the first one was terrible.

They're Re-releaseing Fast And Furious 6...?

I thought they would make a sequel to Fast And Furious 6. Why re-release it in 2015? They should just make a sequel. Strange strategy, Universal.

Oh... they are releasing Fast And Furious 7 in 2015. That makes more sense. Also, I should've spell checked "re-releasing."

Theron was the main selling point for the first Snow White, without her, I see no need to see a sequel. Same applies for the Bourne film. Legacy had potential, but it quickly fell apart and the ending was so abrupt that it felt a sequel was already lined up.
