Universal dates upcoming features The Turning, A Dog's Journey and Bios

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have released some info and dates on three of their upcoming titles, including a horror flick, a family flick and a sci-fi flick. First up is the horror flick, which is titled THE TURNING, which is based on the novella by Henry James. Here's the rundown on that one:

For more than 100 years, a deeply haunting tale has been passed down to terrify audiences. Next February, DreamWorks Pictures’ The Turning takes us to a mysterious estate in the Maine countryside, where newly appointed nanny Kate is charged with the care of two disturbed orphans, Flora and Miles. Quickly though, she discovers that both the children and the house are harboring dark secrets and things may not be as they appear.

Inspired by Henry James’ landmark novella, the haunted-house thriller is directed by renowned visualist Floria Sigismondi (The Runaways, The Handmaid’s Tale) and stars Mackenzie Davis (Tully, The Martian), Finn Wolfhard (It, Stranger Things), newcomer Brooklyn Prince (The Florida Project) and Joely Richardson (Red Sparrow, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).

Next up is the family flick A DOG'S JOURNEY, which is about, you guessed it, a dog's journey and serves as a sequel to A DOG'S PURPOSE. Go fetch for the rundown:

Audiences are invited along on A Dog’s Journey, the next chapter of the beloved bestselling series by author W. Bruce Cameron. The family film told from the dog’s perspective serves as the much-anticipated follow-up to the soulful story of one devoted dog who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love. Directed by Gail Mancuso from an adapted screenplay by Cameron & Cathryn Michon and Wally Wolodarsky & Maya Forbes, based on the book by Cameron.

Lastly, is the most intrigueing of the the trio; BIOS. Starring Tom Hanks as the last man on Earth and directed by Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones) with a script by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell this one already has me getting giddy with CASTAWAY style fun. Here's the info:

Tom Hanks stars in Amblin Entertainment’s Bios as Finch, the last man on Earth. An ailing inventor facing his own mortality, Finch builds a robot to keep his beloved dog safe. As the trio embarks upon an epic cross-country journey, the scientist must teach his creation to become “human” enough to take care of its charge…and the beloved pet to accept a new master.

Some interesting flicks (well, with a sequel in there). I love the reemergence of Amblin, which is hugely responsible for a lot of the love I carry in my heart for film and both BIOS and THE TURNING seem like solid entries in the non-franchise/non-sequel territory that we sorely need. Here's to hoping they pull them off.

THE TURNING is slated for February 22nd, 2019, A DOG'S JOURNEY hits on May 17th, 2019 and BIOS lands on October 22nd, 2020.
