Upcoming Green Lantern film will focus on the Green Lantern Corps

07.11.2015

We've heard some rumors that Warner Bros.' upcoming GREEN LANTERN film would possibly follow two or even three Lanterns. Well, it looks like there was some truth to that as WB just confirmed that the film would, in fact, be about the Green Lantern Corps.

For those uninitiated, The Green Lantern Corps is the intergalactic military/police force who patrol the farthest reaches of the universe at the behest of a race of immortals residing on the planet Oa, known as The Guardians. The Corps has been in existence for three billion years, surviving multiple conflicts both internal and foreign. Each Green Lantern sports a power ring that grants the use of abilities directed by the wearer's own willpower.

Given that the most interest aspect of Martin Campbell's GREEN LANTERN movie was Ryan Reynolds' training and interaction with the other Lanterns, it makes sense to have a movie focus on the relationships and politics of the Corps. Hang in there, Tyrese! You may have a shot just yet!

The GREEN LANTERN CORPS film is currently slated to hit theaters on June 19, 2020.

YES. Screw haters, Green Lantern was a cosmic opera long before the most successful incarnation of Guardians of The Galaxy even make it to print. Heck, Nova and The Nova Corps were Green Lantern rip-offs. The Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern was so bad because they ground him on Earth and the producers just wanted a rom-com with superheroes in it. Hal Jordan is a space peacock, man. You gotta let him fly! Into spaaaaace!

darn. this sounds like Warner Brothers trying to match the success of Guardians of the Galaxy. They want their own space team adventure, When really, you dont even need the Lantern Corp. That was a big issue i had with the Reynolds GL movie.in the middle of it they just do a bunch of stuff in space and then go back to Earth. It was totally unneeded. I wouldve had the first GL movie be just Hal Jordan figuring out the Ring, in the end, other GL show up and it ends with him heading off to proper

And the sequel pick up when he gets back to earth.

Having a Lantern Corp film just sounds like more lame CGI scenes of training and no real danger. I know i loved Guardians and that was a space adventure also, but that was Marvel. Marvel allows itself to be a little silly and the humor grounds the world into something believable. Warner Brothers is going for something more dramatic. i fear this will be a pretty boring and ugly film

So dc can't make a film about a team in space because marvel made a film about a team in space even tho dc made the characters about forty years earlier?

GL is my favorite DC Hero and I SO want to see him done right. This is a good first step by putting it in space. Like someone said below me, this could be the Thor of the DCCU. Bringing the cosmic side of the universe to reality. It has to be done more serious, the GL's were never about humor really. A few one liners are ok, but it can't be the comedy that the last one was. I do also agree, keep Strong's Sinestro.

I think Wonder Woman will be the Thor of the DC universe. Or mabey Aquaman.

I like it. By focusing on the entire Corps, they'll distance themselves from the first film, and most of the action would be in space (which was a common criticism of the other movie).

im the opposite. by focusing on the Corp, they are just reminding me of how bad those scenes were in the original movie.

Based off of the new Superman vs Batman, and Suicide Squad, I'm dying to see what and how badass Green Lantern would look like in the DCCU. If done right, this film could really expand the DCU in the same way Thor did for Marvel (introducing the whole other space realm aspect, which would introduce Sinestro, Darkseid, Parallax, Braniac, etc). And if we can't see Reynolds come back as Hal, then I would love to see Strong back as Sinestro. He was easily one of the best parts of the film and would

He was easily one of the best parts of the film and would be awesome to see him reprise the role and have him eventually be the villain he was foreshadowed to be in the mid credits scene.

And George Miller to direct! Please!

Nothing new. Marvel has been doing this for years. If you want to coordinate multi-picture movie universes, this sort of organization is pretty much necessary.

This would also open the whole "we are not alone" thing that Superman introduced, and get the DCU deeper into space. Where Darkseid lives.
