Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic PROMETHEUS has been doing a reasonable job at remaining classified... but even though they've tried to swerve us away from the idea that the movie is a legit prequel to the ALIEN franchise, we're slowly getting details that verify it as such.

The site Alien Prequel News got word from someone who supposedly spotted hungry xenomorph ancestors on the movie's Pinewood set: "Though security on the set is very tight with the good weather, dock doors have been open and cast and crew have been enjoying lunch outdoors. I can confirm seeing 3 aliens having lunch. Not the whole costume but blueish costumes and the unmistakable heads hanging around their shoulders."

More specifics: "The alien heads were the same shape but no markings, only a plane bronze colour. As for the suits black boots and shoulder pads the rest was a Chelsea blue body suit could be for SFX, all the sets around the back of the bond stage have huge green chromokey maybe that's a clue. I have witnessed foam cut outs of unmistakable aliens all cut in half lengh ways so they could be in the floor walls etc and very much from the original film."

The movie will reportedly also feature actors Emun Elliott (recently seen with Sean Bean in BLACK DEATH) and Benedict Wong, perhaps best known for his catastrophic shield alignment in SUNSHINE.

Scott's curious top secret project is due June 8, 2012 and delves (perhaps) into the history of the deadly Aliens and the Space Jockey species, and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Logan Marshall-Green and Kate Dickie.

Well
That was unexpected. I figured him going for original material, but I'm thrilled as hell now. Also, all the people hating on Alien 3, did you see the workprint cut/bluray edition? I agree wholeheartedly that the theatrical cut is a severe waste of film, but the workprint is something else entirely. yea the special effects are shaky, but it's closer to what Fincher wanted out of the film. Every Alien fan should give it a shot. Either way, Scott is easily my favorite scifi director (cmon, fucking Blade Runner) and this should be a hell of a treat.

Looking forward to this. I agree about the Alien vs. Predator movies and Alien3 and Resurrection. Lets hope they get back on track with this one.

Who cares if its PG-13
The original Alien had one real gore scene (I'm not counting violence towards androids, sorry 'artificial persons') the rest was suspense, atmospherics, and camera work. Its practically a bloodless Hitchcock film. 'Aliens' was even less bloody. I am beyond psyched that Ridley Scott is taking the reins again and returning to his Sci Fi roots.

The original was what it was. And I love it. Just pointing out that beyond the chestburster scene, which i love, its a gothic horror film. Further, I don't even remember the movie for its profanity. I remember being terrified along with Ripley as her wide, sweat-drenched gaze scanned the dark corridors. The chestburster scene certainly set the tone for much of the rest of the movie, but that made it effective, not gratuitous, use of gore. I'll take effective movie-making over cheap blood gags any day of the week. If you just want limbs being melted off and guts being spilled, watch AvP Requiem. 'Aliens' had zero scenes of excessive gore, a couple endearing f-bombs aside, it is a PG-13 movie. And most importantly, I don't know what exact direction Scott is taking this movie. Alien was Gothic horror, Aliens was action/adventure. This could be Blade Runner neo-noir for all i know.

Yeah, who cares. The original shoulda been PG, right? Who needs one of the most iconic moments in cinema history? Who needs authentic dialog where characters talk like adults? Obviously not you.

I think the film sounds cool and all but I'm much rather see a sequel to Aliens directed by James Cameron that would completely disregard Alien 3 and Resurrection. Plot-Ellen Ripley has to fight the Aliens when they finally manage to get to the earth...go.

this is always good news. the fact that they say it ISN'T an aliens prequel only builds up hype that is, especially after the horrible aliens vs. predator movies....
